The Common Room / Re: Death records in 2022
« on: Wednesday 30 August 23 03:50 BST (UK)  »
I wouldn’t be happy seeing a family member’s death and associated details on Ancestry.  >:(
I don't mean to be rude, but this is a very odd thing to say, considering the entire purpose of the Ancestry website and the entire field of genealogy is to document the life, death and associated details of every family member in recorded history.

The Common Room / Re: If only all parish records were as informative as this…

In some parts of Italy, marriage records required the bride and groom to provide the details of their christening, and if either of their fathers were deceased, they also had to describe when and where he died.

My great-grandmother died in 2003, so she doesn't qualify, but if she were still alive, she would 'only' be 103. She had two sets of great-grandparents who were born in the 1790s.

On her father's side:
Robert Feaviour born 1792 in Mendham, Suffolk.
Harriet Buckingham born 1791 in Mendham, Suffolk.

On her mother's side:
John Bunning born 1797 in Ashwicken, Norfolk.
Rebecca Harrison born 1797 in East Winch, Norfolk.

Her father and mother were both the youngest children of their families, born when their fathers were in their 50s.

The Common Room / Re: EMMA - What names could Emma be a nickname for?

I have seen ancestors and relatives of mine named Amy be referred to as Emma on some records.

The Common Room / Re: How many desendants from this generation?
« on: Monday 19 June 23 18:03 BST (UK)  »
There was an essay on an old website where someone calculated that every person living on the island of Great Britain in 1300 who has descendants living today is the ancestor of every person today who has British ancestors in their recent genealogy.

It might be that they are not saved once you leave.
They should be saved. I have let my subscription lapse on and off multiple times over the years, but my saved records are all there dating back to 2015 when I first started using the site.

My 1921 census purchases are showing up for me.

How far back do the records in your 'My Records' go? Could it be possible that you've set up a new account by mistake?

The Common Room / Re: What does Ancestry Library Edition include?
« on: Wednesday 12 April 23 11:06 BST (UK)  »
From the horse's mouth:
"These features aren't available on AncestryLibrary:

    Family trees
    The Member Directory
    Ancestry Message Boards
    AncestryDNA®
    The following record collections:
        Historical Newspaper Collection
        Family and Local History Collection
        Obituary Collection
        Passenger and Immigration Lists Index
        Biography Genealogy Master Index
        Freedman's Bank Records"
To be clear, the "Family Trees" feature mentioned here is the ability to make your own tree. It is possible to browse public family trees using the library edition.

Lanarkshire / Re: When and where did Robert Gray die?
« on: Wednesday 05 April 23 21:37 BST (UK)  »
The next step is ordering the certificate, and hopefully Edward Barrass (or possibly his wife/children also living in the household) will be the informant and can confirm the connection.

Lets hope so! Robert is on the fringes of my research but it would be good to know where he ended his days.  Would you mind letting me know what the certificate says?
Yes, I will be sure to let you know!
