Graham,
thanks very much for your help - my list of diaries I need to look at at Kew grows - I'm going to need to spend a week there!

That's great all - confirms what I thought - Ernest's end was brought on by the effects of gas.
Not a nice way to go by the sounds of it!
Once again,

Thanks,

World War One / 307 & 297 Siege Batteries, Royal Garrison Artillery Jan 1917 - Sept 1917

All,
looking into the service record of Gnr/Signaller 142011 Ernest Johnson.
He died 25/12/18 whilst serving with 445th (S) Battery, RGA whilst in Salonika. However prior to this he had served with 307th (S) Battery RGA between 24/01/17 and 01/04/17 and then 297th (S) Battery RGA 01/04/17 until he was invalided out on 19/08/17 - I think due to being gassed.
Can anyone help shed light on the movements of the 2 units above please during 1917?
I have attached part of Ernest's service record to help.
Many thanks in advance,

Anthony

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Service record - deciphering medical information
« on: Saturday 09 February 13 09:26 GMT (UK)  »
All,
could any kind sole please have a go at deciphering the attached please? It belongs to the service record of Gnr 142011 Ernest Johnson 445th Sieg Battery.
He died 25/12/18 in Salonika of bronchal pneumonia - his record stating his condition was "severely aggravated by active service".
Earlier in the war he had served with 307 battery R.G.A. and had been invalided out to Blighty between 19/08/17 and 13/11/17 suffering from "shell gas poisoning".
I am hoping the attached portion of Ernest's service record may provide more clues.
Many thanks in advance,

Anthony

All,
many, many thanks - Thomas looks great - some fitting tributes to him. He did not survive WW1 sadly.
Once again thanks all for your time and expertise.
