Essex Lookup Requests / Bertram Thomas Henry Scudder
« on: Friday 02 August 13 23:59 BST (UK)  »
I was listening to my local radio station this morning and heard a request from a Rob Lanting in the Netherlands trying to find out information on the above person.

In 1943 a Halifax bomber crashed near his town and two of the seven crew were killed. In September he is unveiling a memorial to the crew and has requested help in tracing relatives of Bertram Scudder.

All he knows is that the family came from Hadleigh in Essex and that his parents were Edith Maud and Bert Henry Scudder.

I've put a link to the radio programme below which will be available for a few days no doubt.
You need to go to 2 hours 33 minutes and 24 seconds to hear the article.

Rob Lantings e-mail address was given out on air as:

lantingrob@hotmail.com

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01cdh18

Having carried out research of a seven man crew myself and building a memorial I know just how hard this type of research is and one needs all the help they can get.

Regards to all.

Chris.

Renfrewshire / Look Up Request - Glasgow area
« on: Tuesday 21 May 13 10:12 BST (UK)  »
Hello to all. Last year and into early this year, I carried out some research into a lost WW2 RAF bomber that crashed in my area (Colchester, North Essex), and I received some excellent help from members on here. Suffice to say the last persons relatives I was looking for were found as a direct result of members help. 'Carole.W.' in particular was very supportive.

I've been approached by someone in Nottingham carrying out similar research for advice and help in trying to find a crew member of another aircraft. As a matter of interest this aircraft and crew met there fate just ten minutes after the one I have researched. Both bombers had been on a mission to Karlsruhe, Germany, and both were back over England when they were shot down by German Night Fighters over different parts of the country.

The person who being sought is JOHN ANDERSON who was born in 1924 in Glasgow.
? whether this person is still living but it is highly likely he stayed in Glasgow after the war.

Any help on behalf of Michael Harrison would be appreciated.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Owen Shell
« on: Monday 10 December 12 14:50 GMT (UK)  »
I'm attempting to locate relatives of Owen Shell. He was born 1886 and in 1916 married Inez Alice Woodroffe (born 1890).

I'm informed that Owen died in 1964 and this is recorded at Amounderness RD.
in Lancashire.

Owen and Inez had one son John Lander. He joined the RAF and was killed aged 23 with the rest of his crew in April 1944 in Colchester Essex. Next year we will be unveiling a small memorial to the seven men. Ideally we'd like to discover a little about John and find a photo of him. We've managed to do this with the other six men in the crew.

After Owen died Inez re married to Ludwik S Kaczmarek in 1970 Buckinghamshire. He died in 1988 and was 20 years younger than Inez.

Inez died in 1983 Chichester.

Obviously I'm exploring all leads possible. I'd be grateful to receive any help or suggestions.

I've already used a newspaper appeal in Stogursey Somerset some months ago which is where the family lived when John the son was born.

Sussex Completed Lookup Requests / INEZ ALICE SHELL nee WOODROFFE
« on: Monday 10 December 12 10:06 GMT (UK)  »
I'm sure this going to be a challenge for anyone interested in a bit of detective work.

Ultimately I'm trying to find information regarding JOHN LANDER SHELL who was the only son of Owen and Inez Alice Shell of Stogursey, Somerset. (I've already posted in the Somerset 'Look Ups' section which has brought me to this and the Buckinghamshire section).

John Shell served with the RAF and was killed with the rest of his crew in Colchester North Essex April 1944. Next year we will be unveiling a small memorial to the Lancaster crew and ideally we'd like to find a photo and learn more information. We have managed to do this with six out of the seven men, John Shell being the last one. He was 23 when he died.

Owen Shell (born 1886) married Inez Alice Woodroffe (born 1890) in 1916.

Owen died in 1964 and Inez re married in 1970 to Ludwick S Kaczmarek in Buckinghamshire. He died in 1988 and was 20 years younger than Inez.

Inez died 1983 in Chichester aged 93.

Any help or advice with this quest will be gratefully received. Thanks.

Buckinghamshire Lookup Requests / Ludwik S KACZMAREK
« on: Monday 10 December 12 09:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hello to all. A bit of a challenge to you here.

I'm trying to find relatives of a WW2 airman called John Lander Shell.

He was the only son of Owen and Inez Shell of Stogursey Somerset. John Shell served as an Air Bomber on a RAF Lancaster and was killed with the rest of his crew near Colchester North Essex in April 1944. He was 23 when he died. Next year we will be unveiling a small memorial to the crew and we'd like to find a photo of each airman and more information if possible. So far we have found six photos out of the seven men.

Through posting on the Somerset 'Look Ups' I've been given a little more information which has lead me to this and the Sussex section.

John Shell was the only child born to Owen and Inez Shell. Owen was born 1886 and Inez Alice Woodroffe was born 1890. They married in 1916.

The CWGC provided the information that the family came from Stogursey, Somerset.

Owen died in 1964 and Inez re married in 1970 to LUDWIK S KACZMAREK in Buckinghamshire. He died in 1988 and was 20 years younger than Inez.

Inez died in 1983 in Chichester Sussex aged 93.

If anyone can help or offer advice I'd be grateful, thanks.

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / John Lander SHELL
« on: Sunday 09 December 12 20:08 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help me locate members of the family of John Lander Shell who was an Air Bomber serving with the RAF during WW2.

He was the son of Owen and Inez Shell of Stogursey Somerset and was only 23 years old when he was killed on 25.04.1944 along with the rest of his crew in Colchester North Essex.

We will be placing a small memorial in remembrance of the Lancaster crew near to the crash site next April and ideally we'd like to find a photo of John Shell and some information. This we'd like to display on the day. We now have photos of six out of the seven men. If we can find one of John Shell we will have completed our task.

Through a newspaper article being published back in June in the Bridgewater Mercury we did manage to trace a distant relative but it is unlikely they will be able to find any photos for us.

Any help or guidance will be gratefully received. Thanks.

Canada Lookup Request / George Gillies & family of
« on: Monday 05 November 12 18:47 GMT (UK)  »
My fathers aunt Jessie Stanfield (born 1906) married George Gillies during the Second World War and moved to North Battlefield in 1947.

Aprroximately 1987, the last address we knew of was 1592 102nd Street North Battlefield Saskatchewan.

Her son Ron was a Canadian Mounted Police Officer and he had three children - Ronnie, Bradley and Lisa.

My father (now in his eighties) would like to get in touch with the family to complete some family history. He has already contacted the War Brides Association with no success. Any ideas welcomed.
