Derbyshire / Bowden Family (New Mills & Hayfield, Derbyshire)

This family of estate agents and solicitors has had for over a century both social and professional links with the Shaw family (brewers from Ashton-u-Lyne and Leigh, Lancs) and the Eckersley family (cotton manufacturers of Atherton, Lancs). I'm trying to trace when and where the connections started and why. I've used Ancestry to create a basic Bowden family tree but cannot work out where solicitors John Arthur Bowden and John Michael Joseph Bowden fit in. There is a promising tree owner on Ancestry but, sadly, they have chosen not to be contacted. Can anyone help me please?

Thanks for responding.

The Eckersleys that I am interested in were largely resident in the Tyldesley area around that time. They married into the Shaw family who owned a brewery in Leigh. I cannot find the Eckersleys you referred to in my notes, although this doesn't mean that they are unrelated.

The male line I am following is as follows:-

Peter (b. ?) - Charles (b. 1833) - [Peter (b. 1864), Walter (b. 1875), Frank (b. 1870), William (b. 1860)] - [Marcus (b. 1897), Charles (b. 1906), Peter (b. 1905)]

Again, thanks for trying to help...much appreciated.  :)

I'm researching influential families from the Leigh and district areas (mainly dating between 1800 and 2000). Families such as Brogden, Shaw, Greenough, Higenbottam, Holden, Frankland, Eckersley, Marsh, Boydell, Horrocks and Collier.

I would be delighted to hear from persons who share a similar interest and from surviving family members. I am already in contact with a number on individuals but would like to hear from more.

What a cracking thread. I hope you don't mind a slight digression, but I too am very interested in Reginald Vereker Prendergast, particularly the person he married.

Reginald was born 12 August 1890 in Rangoon, Bengal, India. He married Mary Elizabeth Eckersley on 4 October 1924, in Bombay. Mary had been previously married to Walter Herbert Eckersley who had died in a tragic accident in 1919.

Mary and Reginald eventually moved back to the UK and settled in Scarborough where they both died, Reginald in 1952 and Mary five years later in 1957. I'm expecting to get a photograph of the grave (if indeed there is a stone) sometime very soon.

I would be delighted to hear more from anyone who can assist me in my search for information and memorabilia.
