Lancashire / Thomas Dodds

"A special vote of thanks to Mr. Dodds, the talented manager to the Bedford Brewing and Malting Co., Limited, for the prominent share taken by him in contributing to the entertainment of the evening, was carried with acclamation." (Leigh Chronicle, Saturday 5 January 1867).

Other news clippings point to his full name being Thomas Dodds. The Brewery was on Brewery Lane, Leigh, and had been acquired by a syndicate and renamed from "Bedford Brewery" in 1866.

Any ID help much appreciated. The usual places have proven unsubstantiated so far.

I have a general interest in the six breweries of Leigh in Lancashire. The buildings, the people and the history. All of the information I gather I record in a Wiki in a per brewery chronological sequence with multi-year 'gleanings' being inserted to cover stories like that of John Payne Pratt. The Bedford Brewing and Malting Company (BBMC) existed in Leigh, Lancashire, from 1866 and until 1901 although, under different names, the business both preceded and postdated that period. The creation of the BBMC in 1866 saw John Payne Pratt being appointed as Company Secretary, a position he held until around 1868/70 at which point new Secretary, William Smith, took the reins. Until I really started digging and with help from others, JPP was a bit of a mystery. Now we are clearer on the JPP story.

Thank you for your help to date, it is very much appreciated.  :)
