Parents Mary Ann Wilson & Robert Leckie of Calton, both died young, brothers raised in Quarriers home Bridge of Weir (1901 census). No record of Robert in 1911 census. Daniel married Janet Henderson, moved to Clydebank. They never saw each other again. Ships list to US or Canada do not match birth year, or on next census. Cannot match any death record for Robert Leckie in UK or Canada or US. 90 year-old nephew would like to solve this mystery, maybe locate relatives.

Though this post is older, l just came across it and decided to respond. My husband's grandmother, Mary Coulter Underwood (nee Donaldson),  was born 1895 at Jawcraig, parish of Falkirk, County of Stirling. Later census shows family at Slammanan and she has various siblings including a sister Martha.
Parents were Jane Aird Kennedy and Robert Burnet Donaldson.
M. Gd-parents Jessie Stevenson and William Kennedy
P. Gd-parents Jane Burnet and John Donaldson

Sharmar, there would appear to be a connection, though l have not done any research prior to the marriage of William and Ann then the birth of Jonas. Jonas moved to Scotland, shows up on the 1891 census for Holytown Lanarkshire as a coal miner (no sign of family), 1901 census he is still a miner, 40 years old with wife Sarah Ann (Shepherd), children Sarah Ann 16, Rose Ann 15, Blanche 11 - all born in England then Jonas 9, Mary 5 and Richard William 2 (my husband's grandfather),all born in Lanarkshire. My records indicate they married in 1888 in Dawley and Sarah's previous married name was Reynolds so l doubt the older children were Underwoods.  My husband's uncle was known as Jack and never knew until he died that he was also a Jonas!

p.s. note of interest, this male line of Underwoods has now died out. Uncle Jack had no children, my husband and l had no sons, my husband's brother had one son but parents divorced and boy legally took the step-father's name. However, my one daughter kept the Underwood name professionally.

As a new member, not quite sure what l am doing yet but my husband's great-grandparents were Jonas Underwood and wife Sarah from Dawley-Madeley; other names in that family are Tonks (or Tunks), Shepherd and Downie.

Surrey / Re: Zachariah Giles

I am a new member of Rootschat and though this 'conversation' is quite old now, hopefully, this information will still be of some value. Zachariah is my direct ancestor, through my grandmother Louisa Emily Giles born 1892 in Croydon to Zachariah's son George and wife Louisa Baxter. Jim Giles, my father's cousin of New Addington, Croydon, gave me some research before he died and they show Zachariah as being baptized on September 26th, 1802 and Thomas and Hannah as the parents. I also have a listing of all his children and their birth years. The oldest, Thomas, was born in 1826. Zachariah died of cancer on August 4, 1869 -  his wife Honor Stephens having pre-deceased him from typhus on September 21, 1849. I do not have all the 'official' documents for these details (other than the census returns), only the typewritten pages given to me.
