Family History Beginners Board / Denby family, Snaith to America?
« on: Monday 22 October 12 11:50 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am tracing the Denby family of the Snaith area in Yorkshire and suspect that at least one of them left the area and went to America in the mid 18th to 19th century, could someone please give me a tip as to where I could start to look for any information which would help me prove or indeed disprove this theory.
Best regards always

The Common Room / Where do the roots end?
« on: Monday 15 October 12 11:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have been researching my family tree for a while with some degree of success, mainly i have to say with the help and kindness of the roots community who i cannot speak highly enough of.
My question is where or when do you know that you have reached the end of the line, or the beginning of any possible research.
One side of my tree research is the Denby family of the Snaith / Goole area of Yorkshire, I have got back as far as possibly my 12 x Great Grandfather in 1560 in Snaith, would this be classed as the end or beginning of the line or is there some other form of research to go even further back?
I have got that far with the help of Snaith parish church records.
Best regards always,

Family History Beginners Board / Where is Charlie Ridgway?????
« on: Sunday 23 September 12 21:39 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for my Fathers ancestors for him and have only got back as far as his Grandad who was called Charlie Ridgway, My dad knows Charleys wife was called Mary and she was born about 1877 in Burslem in Staffordshire, we have found them on the 1911 census lodging at 23 Arundel street in Sheffield. Charlie was born in that wonderful place called "NK" in Warwickshire about 1880, apart from that we have hit a brick wall. Any help or advice would be most welcome.
Many thanks, jess5athome :-[

Europe / Names with "Van" in the Netherlands
« on: Thursday 20 September 12 13:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I really do not want to seem like a pain with all the questions I ask but could someone try to explain to me the "Van" pre-fix on names in the Netherlands.
I am tracing my family tree on my Grandfathers line, his name was Kempen his mail used to be addressed Kempen however he sometimes had it addressed Van Kempen, was the "Van" always used and then dropped or was it just a matter of preference?.
I am looking for Kempens but should I be looking for Van Kempens also?
Best regards

Europe / The Dutch in Moorends, Thorne Yorkshire
« on: Tuesday 18 September 12 12:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I am at the moment having a great deal of sucess (I think so anyway) looking into my Grandfathers line in the netherlands. I was wondering if anyone out there has any pictures of the Dutch settlers who came and lived in the Moorends area of Thorne near Doncaster in the early 1900`s.
My grandfather together with his parents came over here but I only have photo`s of my Grandfather, there were several familys who lived on "Dutch Row" near the level crossings in Moorends as well as my Grandfather (Kempen) there were I think the Smits and also a family called Verhees.
I know its a "long shot" but someone may have photographs of any of the early Kempens.
Many thanks, jess5athome.

He came over to England in the early 1900`s but after the 1911 census so i cannot find anything about him.
All i know is that his father was also called by the same name and his mother was Hendriana Verheyen.
Many thanks.
