The Lighter Side / Re: Finding Divorce Record

Might be easier to go to the nearest County Court to where he or his wife were living at the time - many solicitors will destroy their files after 6 years and the Family Court at High Holborn have "disorder and chaos" as their mantra  ;D

I think a copy costs £25.

If you go on to the Courts Service website and search for the County Court nearest, they often have a family enquiries email address.  Some are more helpful than others though......

The Lighter Side / Re: How many convict relatives in your tree?

Very disappointingly, none.  The worst conviction I have found is for "furiously driving" through the Market place in his horse and trap.

I'd be off to polish my halo were it not for the fact I have a 3x bigamist who never got caught..........

Not a date, but a coincidence that surprised the whole family. My grandmother's family came from a rural village about 50 miles north of where I grew up.  Indeed the whole family knew that is where they had come from for as far back as anyone knew.

It was therefore a bit of a shock to find that my gg grandfather had moved into the village where I grew up, farmed the land that was subsequently farmed by my father 100 years later, had my g grandfather there, then (after the death of my gg grandmother) married a lady from the house I actually lived in before moving "back home".  No one had the faintest idea.......

If there is anyone with some sharp eyes out there and some time on their hands, I'd be grateful for an extra pair of eyes, please.

Looking for James Miller Thurlby, born 1868 in Uffington, Lincolnshire, son of John Thurlby and Frances Bemrose.  I've got him in 71, 81, 91 and 1911.  I think it possible (but not sure) that in May 1900 he was in Argentina I cannot find when he went out there or came back (he was def back by 1904 because he got married here).

Can anyone else help, please?

Sorry, Mods if this is the wrong place - its kind of one foot in the CRs and one foot in travel!!!

Ahhh, now that would fit, thanks Steve.  He left other children "one lamb" "one cow" etc (he was a husbandman).  Yes that makes perfect sense, thank you.

I think after brass-pann it says "and the brandreth".  Unfortunately, the first bit of each word at the beginning of the line has not copied.

Not sure Ruskie.  I wondered if it said "sauc-pann".  I suppose it could be brass-pann.  That looks possible.

Whenever I find an old document, I am always cock a hoop until then I realise I cant blummin read it..........

As for daughter Elizabeth I think she got a pair of candlesticks and a pewter tankard plus the biggest something and is it a brandreth?

Help please!
