Thankyou for your info. PaulineJ & mosiefish gives me much more to go on - you're certainly on the ball both of you.

Interested also to learn about Holliforth House if anyone knows anything about it.
Also for Ann Brackall, dau. of James, the abode states, Hayer Bartel - is that an area in Woodplumpton please.
The surname spelling is rather varied but guess that's to be expected at times.

Great to have the links - many thanks.

Would love to learn about Professor James BRAKEL's (b: Feb. 25, 1727) family, and who, when & where he married please.
All I have for his wife is UNKNOWN born BRECKEL,  b:1731.
They had a daughter Ann BRAKEL b: Nov 11 1753 in Woodplumpton, Lancashire d: 1801 who married a John SHAW.

Any further details on above would be gratefully received.

Hello Hannah,

What you have heard from someone re George Mason jumping ship & swimming to Okains is not correct.
If you care to look at my forum at:  http://mymasonkininnz. proboards.com you will find out that George & his friend John Fluerty, landed at Kapiti Island  whaling station on Christmas Day 1837 from Sydney, Australia  where they stayed briefly in Te Rauparaha's stronghold, later sailing to Port Chalmers and lastly to Akaroa arriving 4 Jan 1838

It is extremely likely that you will find details of his apprenticeship etc. in the records of the Cordwainers'Company.  This is a City of London Livery Company whose records are held at Guildhall Library.  I realize that accessing these may be difficult for you from New Zealand as they have not been transcribed and are not online.
What exactly was meant when he was said to have been born in London is not clear.  However the company records are likely to extend beyond the City of London.

Many thanks for your post & advice re City of London Livery Co. whose records at Guildhall Library.
I wonder if I wrote to them but only worry is I don't have Charles Hartleys exact date of birth & where, nor his parents names.  Not much to go on for anyone is there!!!

Thankyou for your help, behindthefrogs,

Hello Leandra,

Thank you very much for posting Cecil's info. for me - unfortunately the 3 don't print out and I would very much love to have a copy of them.  Could you contact me by my email please or through a private message.

So pleased to know Jack is alive - met him at Okain's a few years ago and he showed up some lovely old photos of his family and also gave me new data on my Hartleys which was wonderful.

Interested to know if you are also connected to the Hartleys?
Have started forum on them on proboards.com which you are welcome to join.

Looking forward to hearing from you,
Thankyou again.
