Scotland / Sutherland family Caithness -help needed plse.
« on: Sunday 02 July 06 07:04 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have a connection to Christina Sutherland born Dunbeath, Caithness, 16 November 1838. Her parents names on her death cert. in 1912 are William Sutherland & Christina Sutherland. I would love to find out who her siblings were & if possible about her parents families. Where they came from, were married, is a complete mystery.
Christina (daughter) came to New Zealand on the vessel "Lincoln" arriving 1867 & in June 1868 married William McLauchlan  (Perthshire)in the home of a Mr. Sutherland in the Canterbury township of Lincoln. A witness at her wedding was a James Sutherland, farmer, Selwyn.
William McLauchlan & Christina Sutherlands children were: William Sutherland McLauchlan; Catherine (Kate) McLauchlan; John b. July 1873; William Archibald Cook McLauchlan b. June 1876. They called their farm " Craigieburn Farm".
Any suggestions etc. very much appreciated.
Many thanks, Tiffaney.

:)Hi Sharon, great to hear from you. Who did your Beatrice marry. Have a list of James's children & couldn't find her name. Did she have a different christian name. Was she born at Brookside or Ruapuna.

Did you know old John born Dunkeld, 1801 is buried in the Lincoln cemetary with his daughter Ann & her husband David Dunn. Poor man was quite blind when he died as was your James's brother William who married Christina Sutherland from Dunbeath, Caithness at Lincoln in 1868. Christina is my big brick wall but I'm fortunate to have Williams bible with entries of his family & a couple of John, his sons diaries plus William McLauchlan's obituary.

Marjory nee Milne (John snrs. wife )have been unable to find out where or when she died but it would have been before 1851. If you need to know more plse let me know. Perhaps we can put our heads together to go back further.
cheers, Tiffaney

Hi all,
Can someone please help me find siblings & parents of my g.g.grandfather John McLauchlan born 1801 Dunkeld, Perthshire who married Marjory (Mey) Milne b. Cargill c 1803 in Couper Angus, on 26 Dec. 1824.

I have come across a Robert McLauchlan born Dunkeld 4 April, 1807; father James McLauchlan who possibly married at Dunkeld 15 Dec. 1830, Catherine Menzies.
William & Marjory's children were: Ann b. 10 Dec. 1825 who married David Dunn (Aucherarder)  26 Nov. 1847.
John born 1828, Mey b.1831, William born 3 June, 1836, bap:Middle Church, Perth; & James  born 1839.
In 1831 the family lived at Hillyland on the north-eastern outskirts of Perth. In 1836 they were on Friarton or Moncrieffe Island in the River Tay & in 1851 in Evelick in the Parish of Kilspindie.

John's wife Marjory must have died because John McLauchlan is listed in 1851 as Head. widower 48yrs Farm labourer.
John & his children came to New Zealand on the "Cornubia" in 1855 & settled in Canterbury< New Zealand.

Would be marvellous if someone may have some leads or suggestions.
Thankyou, Tiffaney
