Family History Beginners Board / Marriage certificates 1836
« on: Friday 05 April 19 13:32 BST (UK)  »
Please can you help.

I would like to send for the marriage certificate of my great aunt and uncle to hopefully establish who her father/ mother was. I have all the necessary information but at a loss of where to obtain it.

They were married in Cardiff in 1836. Merthyr Reg office told me to go to Cardiff in person to order one, when I asked could I order on line she didn't know.
I have tried GRO website but can only find births and deaths to order online. Can you order marriage certificates here?

I also tried Cardiff Reg office website and it says that they will only copy from 1837 and if they have the original.

     Any suggestions?

Thanks
Suzanne

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Help understanding matches
« on: Monday 04 March 19 00:53 GMT (UK)  »
I have on Ancestry DNA a match with 3 other people.

Two of these matches are 3rd cousins. We are related by my grandfather and their great grandmother being brother and sister.

The other cousin is a 4th cousin and has no connection to our grandparents family surname. He has found a link with our family through the sister of my greatgrand mother who before she married was a Williams.

If this is correct would he have a DNA link with my paternal great granfather?

Glamorganshire / Griffiths,Fosters and Morleys
« on: Sunday 03 March 19 22:48 GMT (UK)  »
Myself and three cousins are all matched via our Griffiths ancestors and Ancestry DNA.
John Griffiths 1852-1912 and Jane Williams 1857-1928
     His parents
William Griffiths1812 and Jane Thomas 1830-1908
 His parents
Griffith Griffiths 1777 and Jennet Thomas 1780

All born in Eglwysilan except Griffith born St Nicholas, lived in or around Eglwysilan all their lives.
   All have been verified .

This week we were contacted by two more cousins who had been matched through Ancestry DNA to us through the Griffiths family

     BUT

They have no Griffiths on their tree but match with

Llewelyn Morley 1836 and SMorley 1845

     And

     W Foster1811 and Mary 1811

Myself and other three cousins do not have these names on our trees.

We have all tried this weekend but have failed to find the link.

Please can you help.

Suzanne

« on: Friday 15 February 19 23:54 GMT (UK)  »

Please can you help in finding Hercules Lower's baptism.

He married Lore Alee at St Marnarck's Lanreath on 1 Jan 1597/98 and was buried there 1639.

I have tried OPC and FreeReg with Lanreath and just Cornwall without success.

        Thank you

Please can you help.   Mary Phillips 1806-1881 is my 3xggrandmother, married to Richard Reynolds, both  Lanivet Cornwall.
Her father is the problem. Is it

Samuel Phillips born 6 Aug 1781 St Stephens in Brannel
               Or
Samuel Phillips born 14 Aug 1781 Lanivet.

There are also members on ancestry who have her father as William Phillips.

        Thank you

Ancestral Family Tree DNA Testing / Maps and locations on Ancestry DNA results
« on: Thursday 17 January 19 16:07 GMT (UK)  »

Clicked on maps and locations with a DNA match only to find that three of my grandparents have been given by ancestry different birthplaces.
My grandfather born in South Wales has been relocated to Alaska, a g grandfather relocated to Derbyshire from Yorkshire and a gg grandmother fron Cornwall to Canada.

Checked my own tree and found that they were exactly where they should be. So why has Ancestry made this mistake and how many other ancestors has this happened to.

Tried to find an edit button to alter to no avail.

   Any thoughts?
