Occupation Interests / Shoemakers in Hunts
« on: Friday 12 August 05 16:46 BST (UK)  »
I have several ancestors who were shoemakers in Hunts in the 19th century.  Does anyone know of records kept of shoemakers and their apprentices? One of them spent several years in London  between the 1860 and 1870 censuses and may have been apprenticed there, too.

Looking for information about the Etsell family who were living in Newnham in 1881.  George Etsell was a baker, and had a confectionery business there. :)

One Name Studies: A to G / FAREY, FAIRY, FAIREY
« on: Friday 29 July 05 08:33 BST (UK)  »
Am stuck in 1776 with the birth in Gt Catworth of my ancestor William Farey, married to Mary Bassett, born Swavesey.  With various spellings of the name, the family lived in Hunts around the Easton, Ellington and Spaldwick area, and many of them were shoemakers.  William and Mary had 6 children, including my g-g-grandfather John, born 1806.  Am looking for descendants of these children James 1798, Sarah 1801, Joseph 1803, Hannah 1807 and Elizabeth 1818. Also would like to get back earlier than 1776 and would welcome any help with this.

Does anyone have information on Hunts shoemakers?  I have several generations of the Fairey family of Easton and Ellington who were all shoemakers, and would like to know if there is a register of some kind which lists them and their apprentices.  Any info welcome.  :)

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1841 Rochdale lookup for THOMAS HURST, please
« on: Wednesday 27 July 05 16:00 BST (UK)  »
Do you have access to the 1841 census for Rochdale?  If so, could you please find THOMAS HURST (1803), his wife BETTY and son JOHN (1834), all born Rochdale?   In 1851 they were living in Littlewood Street, Wardleworth, Rochdale, and Thomas and John were Wool Sorters. Any help appreciated. :)
