I ask because the 1901 Canadian census data gives specific dates of birth, and that would help confirm if any of the Annie Harpers are yours.

The Lighter Side / Re: WHAT WAS THE SADDEST DEATH IN YOUR TREE?
« on: Saturday 23 July 05 03:53 BST (UK)  »
It would have to be the death of William Stewart in Peterborough Ontario back in 1864. He was on a canoe outing that was meant to be a bit of a pleasant late summer picnic with his wife Louise McNabb, his 12 year old son Tom and his brother in law Robert McNabb.  While reaching for his gun to take a shot at a bird, he managed to shoot himself near the elbow.  An ineffective tourniquet and the effort of trying to paddle home combined, and he died the next day.

Can you imagine how frantic his wife and son must have been? Just awful. She was left a widow at 31 with seven children.

Do you have a specific date of birth for her? That would help!

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Yorkshire Robinsons Pre 1830's
« on: Saturday 23 July 05 02:58 BST (UK)  »
My husband's 2G grandfather was a tailor from Yorkshire, who emigrated to Toronto (then in Upper Canada) in 1831 with his father John Robinson, who appears to have been a widower.

The Robinson headstone says Isaac was born in Yorkshire October 16 1809. A directory published in 1885 notes that that Isaac was the eldest of the children in the family, and that he had a brother and three sisters, but gives no names for these siblings. It notes he learned his tailoring trade in Yorkshire, but we don't know if his father was a tailor. Father John Robinson is buried with the family in Toronto, and the headstone says he was born October 10 1788. There is no mention of a wife for John and we don't know her name, so we presume she died in Yorkshire prior to Isaac and John setting out for Toronto.

Isaac married in Toronto in 1832 to a Ruth Walker from Brampton, England, and their children include Mary Ann, Margaret, Mary Jane, Elizabeth Ruth, Sarah Ann, Egerton, Clara, Hannah Louise and Ellen Amelia.

So...we're looking for help finding out the name of Isaac's mother and siblings and where in specific in Yorkshire they might have been from. Despite having specific birthdates for Isaac and father John, we're stuck!

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Walker, Brampton, pre 1830's
« on: Saturday 23 July 05 02:42 BST (UK)  »
My husband's 2G grandmother was a Ruth Walker. Her headstone says she was from Brampton, England and was born October 11 1811.

She was gone from England and in Toronto, (then in Upper Canada), marrying Isaac Robinson, a tailor from Yorkshire in 1832. Their children include Mary Ann, Margaret, Mary Jane, Elizabeth Ruth, Egerton, Clara, Hannah Louise and Ellen Amelia.

We aren't sure if she emigrated alone or with her parents, or a specific year of emigration. We have thus far been unable to find out who her parents may have been, despite the specific date of birth and town. Anyone have some thoughts on who her parents were or where to look?

Any other Bramptons in England than in Cumberland?
