The Common Room / Re: Prisoners of War
« on: Sunday 12 September 04 21:15 BST (UK)  »
Hello all, can anybody reccommend a source for looking up a prisoner of war's details -

Just a thought - try the MOD War Pensions . I seem to remember seeing an article that they hold the original POW cards made out by the German Forces. You have to be next of kin to make the request (so I understand).

Good luck

Good luck James.

Post was ideal - I yet have to post my first request :)

If you are looking for Boorers , you may already have visited http://www.documentsonline.nationalarchives.gov.uk/browse-refine.asp?CatID=10&searchType=browserefine&pagenumber=1&query=*&queryType=1

If not there are 50 there.

Occupation Interests / Re: Norfolk Constabulary service records

Mick,

I would think it unlikley to find sources on the web and I think that the Met one is a one off.

Would suggest writing to the force concerned some have museums and records may still exist.

Over the years many forces have amalgamated .

I found 6 M Taylors (no first names) listed as British Army  prisoners of war held by the Germans in WWII.

Prisoner numbers, camps held in , and army service number are also  given - that is all.

None of the following had a relatively low prisoner number which would be expected for someone taken prisoner early in the war as at Dunkirk.

Initial(s)  Unit

MW         RASC
M            RA
M            RA
M            Cheshire
M            R. Ulster Rifles

Good luck with your search
