Hi all. Yes, this is him. Born 25 March 1872 in the District of Ystradyfodwg to Charles TUCKER and Ann LEWIS. I'm afraid I'm going to need a little local help with the name of the town he was born in? I've attached the certificate.

Glamorganshire / George TUCKER (1872-1960) - birth

Hello

According to his death registration (in 1960), George TUCKER was born in Ystradyfodwg, Glamorgan. According to his gravestone, he was born on 25 March 1872 (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/202094680/george-tucker). According to his marriage registration (in 1893), his father's name was Charles TUCKER. I do not know his mother's name.

Somehow he got to South Australia between 1872 and his marriage in Adelaide on 22 December 1893. It is unclear to me yet whether he came to South Australia with his family or not. There are no ready matching Charles TUCKER death's in South Australia.

I'm looking to confirm his birth from Welsh resources.

There are three possible births on Freebmd:

Births Mar 1872
TUCKER    George        Pontypridd    11a   358
Births Jun 1872
Tucker    George        Newport, M.    11a   224
Births Sep 1872
TUCKER    George        Cardiff    11a   268

Is there a way to find more information about these entries before ordering the registrations? I note GRO can seek to match information, but usually based on a Mother's Maiden Surname (which I don't have). The GRO website doesn't let you put in a date of birth or father's name.

Thanks for any pointers.

Craig

Yes, that certainly matches the information I have well.

Hi Thanks for all considerations above.

have you published a tree on Ancestry?
No, I don't use Ancestry. I know Ancestry has its place, but the paywall can be frustrating. I have placed old Kayser on Wikitree though (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Kayser-197).

That church is Ev. Lutheran, but I see (from Wikipedia) it's in the Hildesheim region, which held the main Catholic church.   Thus first think about which religious archive is needed.
I don't have any indication he wasn't a Lutheran. I've never seen a Catholic connection on my mother's side. He was buried in an Anglican cemetery in Adelaide.

I found this tree with the a date of birth that fits
Just wanted to know if this is his tree.
This family was from Leimbach in Thüringen.

Unfortunately I can't access that link - it requires a login. Ancestry DE doesn't accept my Ancestry logon and I can't register on the German Ancestry site because my email is used for the Ancestry AU site. Seems a bit circular.

Sorry, just to add to this, his teacher's service history indicates he was born on 10 May 1835: https://ap01-a.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/view/delivery/61USOUTHAUS_INST/12179768140001831

Hi Dave - thanks. I posted the details but as a separate post (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=851243.0). Am still interested to keep the options open for professional help, so will keep this question separate. Craig

Hello all

This is part two of my thread https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=851239.0, and as suggested by Dave am posting the specific question.

Johann August Ludwig KAYSER (1836?-1910) was my great great grandfather.

I know from primary sources in Australia that he arrived in Port Adelaide, South Australia (SA), on 15 August 1858 on board the brig Grassbroek (Grassbrook), having departed Hamburg on 25 April 1858.

He worked as a teacher in various schools for the SA Department of Education, 1862-1893, and as a headmaster at the state schools in Lyndoch and Brighton.

He married Amalie BEECKEN on 13 December 1862 in Adelaide SA and resided in Lyndoch Valley SA.

On 11 June 1866, he partitioned the Governor of South Australia to obtain the rights and capacities of a natural-born British subject. As part of these papers he claimed to have been born in Lautenthal in the Kingdom of Hannover and to be of 31 years of age (so born c1835).

His last residence was named “Lautenthal” in Hewitt Avenue, Rose Park Adelaide, SA. This obituary (in German) states he was born on 10 May 1836 in Lautenthal: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/230697742 ('Todes-Anzeige' Australische Zeitung (Adelaide SA) 23 February 1910 p5). According to his marriage registration he was the son of August Wilhelm KAYSER.

I am hoping to confirm these birth details from German sources. Also to know a little more about his parents.

Thank you for any pointers

Craig
