Yorkshire (West Riding) / Seed info - please
« on: Thursday 28 July 05 15:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi, My g/grandfather married Hannah Seed in 1891 in Brighouse. At the time of her marriage her father Thomas Seed was a butcher.   When Hannah was born in June 1870 in Southgate, Bradford her father was a drover. Her mothers name was Jane Smith.  In the 1881 census, Hannah was staying with an older sister Clara aged 22 who had just got married. Any info on Thomas Seed or Jane Smith would be great - as I'm at a dead end at present. Thanks .... Sheila

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Loader family
« on: Thursday 28 July 05 14:12 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone help me please to find out anything about my Loaders? Here is what I have so far ;                 This is definitely my g/grandfather in the following censuses                         - 1901 Frederick  51 b. London wheelwright                    1891Frederick    40 b.NottingHill wheelwright                             1881Frederick30 b.London Midx  wheelwright         I think this is him in 1871 Frederick 22 b. Marylebone  cart & wheelwright. As you can see there is a mixture of ages, and to make it even more so, on his marriage cert on 25 Dec 1872 his age is given as 24.    Also, one census says b.Marylebone and the other NottingHill. I'm not too familiar with the areas of London, but I dont think they were close enough to be the same. Can someone correct me if I am wrong?  Fredericks middle name was Joseph, but I dont know how often he used it. On his marriage cert. his fathers name is given as William Mornay Loader. I have found a birth for Frederick Loader (no middle name) 6 March 1849 to William Loader and Harriet Reede, at 1 Little York Place Marylebone. Can anyone find them on either the 1851 or 61 censuses please? It would be nice after all the searching, if these turned out to be the right family. It really is like searching for a needle in a haystack! Thanks ... Sheila

Thanks Amanda, Interesting to see there is no date for John born about 1845.   Also out of all those names, John(1845) had children called, David, Mary Ann, Robert, and Jessie (Jessie and Janet seem to be interchangeable). I appreciate the look up - thanks .... Sheila

Stirlingshire / Re: Barrie - Larbert
« on: Thursday 28 July 05 12:53 BST (UK)  »
Thanks Anne, We dont have a family history centre here , but I wonder if the library would have anything. I'm more inclined to go for George and Joan, because the other couple had a regular two year gap in their children 1826, 1828, 1830, 1832. If George and Joan are the parents then it looks like both or one at least of them died about the same time that Helen had her first child in 1848 when she was about 20. On the other hand Helen might have been born in Larbert but her parents may just have been visiting! The other Barries may be relatives! Oh dear! Do you know any good detectives?!!!!!  If you do decide to go to the graveyard let me know, it may just throw up a few clues even just one clue would be fine! Sheila

Thanks for looking that up Anne. Crawfordjohn is a long way from Larbert. I couldnt find  Avondale on my map, but as it is also in Lanark, I guess it is probably too far away as well. I've been looking at the names of the children of Robert and Helen to see if I could get any clues, but I don't think it helps any.  Their children were  Betsy,John,George,Duncan Milne Allardice, Robert,James,Charles,Isabella, Jessie Mill, and Helen. Roberts father was William, but there is no child William, so they dont appear to have stuck to the old naming pattern. I havent been able to find their marriage yet either, but Betsy was born in 1848 in Kirriemuir,Angus. Helen would only have been about 20 then. Do you know if those two were the only Barrie families in Larbert at  that time? Thanks for the info .... Sheila

Hi, my g/g/grandmother was Helen Barrie.  She married Robert Allardice from Kirriemuir in Angus. She was born about 1828/29 according to the 1881 census for Glamis, as she was 52, and she was born in Larbert Stirling. Can anyone give me any further info on her please? Thanks  ... Sheila

Angus (Forfarshire) / Wallace family

Hi, my g/grandfather was John Wallace born 1845 in Oathlaw (not sure of exact date). His father was also John Wallace (not sure of his date of birth or where he was born), and his mother was Margaret Fyfe. They married in Kirriemuir 20 May 1843. Can anyone help with any further info? I think Margaret may have been born in Kirkden in 1822, but I have nothing on John Wallace. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks ... Sheila

Hi Maddie, That would all fit in. Kates grandparents both died 1850 and 1851, so she goes to live with a relative of her grandmother, until her marriage. Oh! I forgot Sarah! Maybe she died too?!! Maybe she went to stay with Henry as well Henry Wootton is probably a bit young to be a brother to Elizabeth Wootton but maybe he is a nephew. The plot thickens! We're probably on the right trail here, but maybe I'll never know exactly who is who.  It all gets quite exciting as you try to work things out, doesn't it?  Thanks for all your help. ... Sheila

Thanks again Maddie.  I think it is maybe all starting to make a little sense now.  First of all, that is Kates marriage to Abraham Brooks in 1853. Their first child (my g/grandmother) was called Sarah Elizabeth.  Perhaps Sarah after her mother and Elizabeth after her grandmother? There is a five year gap between Harriett 1803 and William 1808  so there could easily have been another child (or two!). So Sarah 1806/7 could have been a daughter. Hope you do manage to find out if any of the family were at Pauls Row.   Speak to you soon ... Sheila
