Hampshire & IOW Lookup Requests / Re: 1881/1891 census Charles M. CHILD b. Hants
« on: Tuesday 07 February 06 09:24 GMT (UK)  »
Gosh what a lot of chat about Charles!  How come you have been so busy with Charles, Cheryle?
To put things into perspective:
Thomas Child of Hurstbourne Tarrant married Mary Fielder of Newbury, Berks.
Children (I think this is all of them:
Alfred 1840 His daughter Isabel married Richard's son Thomas. (Some of) the other children were Agatha, Ethel, Mabel & Gerald. Alfred followed his father Thomas into the church - both were Rector of Upper Clatford at one time.
Richard 1842-29 apr 1923 (My ancestor) was married twice. First time round he married Mary Louisa Dampier granddaughter of Rev Frowd (rector of Upper Clatford!) and had 9 children. They combined their surnames and Richard went through life as Richard Dampier-Child after that. In his late 40's he took a liking to the nursemaid - Mary Ann Austridge and he divorced and married her.(4 children)
Thomas Hall 1843 Married an Alice Unknown and his son Thomas George married another of Richard's children, Lucy
Edward 1846 Seems not to have married and was ... wait for it!.... Curate of Upper Clatford
Charles Morgan 1848 So poor Charlie died young (sob)
Mary Ann 1850 Don't know anything about Mary.

I wonder where Hall & Morgan come from?

In 1871 - Charles M CHILD (aged 23) was living at home with dad in Upper Clatford, Hants (dad = Rev Thomas Child, Rector of Upper Clatford & Rural Dean)
Charles is listed as Attorney and Solicitor. But I can't  find him after that!  >:( Can someone see him in 1881/91?
He was born in Appleshaw, Hants.

Gosh you two are good!

Sorry about that you are right, it is Alfred not Albert - I have to think twice every time I write it.
So little Edward was at grannies in East Woodhay - Great that gives me grannies name as well! and 'FRED was at school in Wiltshire.
Thank you both VERY much that's a great help on the CHILD side. Did you find any FIELDER people on your travels through Berkshire?

Berkshire Lookup Requests / 1851 census FIELDER family in Newbury, Berks
« on: Monday 16 January 06 19:21 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for the name FIELDER in Newbury. John Fielder should be there also a George, Grove & Clara (if still single). All these FIELDERs came off Mary FIELDER and Thomas CHILD's marriage cert.  Mary was already dead in 1851 and her widower and some of the children were living over in Hampshire. However some of the children are not with their dad at the time of the census and I'm wondering if they were staying with Fielder relatives. Also, apart from John, who was Mary's father I don't know who the other Fielders on the marriage cert were.
The missing children (I know about) are Alfred CHILD about 11 and Edward CHILD 4.

Can anyone undo a few knots in my ball of wool?

Thank you!

Hi Sarah & Nicki,
Yes this is Thomas - he was indeed a vicar.
Looks like Elizabeth Fielder moved in after her sister died. I didn't know she died so young.

I am missing (at least) two children though - Albert about 11 and 4 year old Edward.  Any suggestions how to find them?

I'm looking for the 1851 entry for Thomas CHILD and his wife Mary (nee FIELDER) Thomas would be about 44 in 1851 and listed his place of birth as Hurstbourne Tarrant, Hampshire on the 1881 census.
There should be at least 4 sons Richard, Alfred, Thomas and Edward. Are there any more children or interesting visitors?

Can someone please help?
Regards
Annmarie
