I'd check if they still keep his records at Wellington Barracks - I  seem to remember reading a few years ago the Guards had passed them on to Manning and Records in Glasgow and they are now held with the rest on the British Army's.

Thanks - Everyday a skool day and all that.

By the way I'd cancel your subscription to Forces War Records if I was you ;)

Light Battery probably means Light Anti-Aircraft Battery

Are you wanting a copy of his service records to confirm his unit or do you want copies of his units war diaries so you can see what they were doing on a day to day basis and where they were doing it.

Is your first name Sue by any chance? I recently did some research for someone interested in the same units.

CWGC Don't list his unit just his regiment so you would need the records to identify the unit within the Pioneer Corps he was serving with when he died if you wanted to check the war diary.

If he died more than 26 years ago you do not need NOK approval, anyone can apply. If you are a relative sign the form as the NOK stating you are the nearest known living relative to him.

Don't get too hung up on NOK approval...Its just the MODs way of having an umbrella for the data protection act.
