On the 1911 census Tufnell Cowper Alliston Barrett and his wife Catherine 1911 details removed by Moderator
I wonder if it could have been the eldest son who was the Clerk in Holy Orders and reported Emily Ricketts death.  He died in 1982 and the National Probate Calendar gives his address as The Old Vicarage Moulsford, Oxfordshire

Sorry about that

There were 3 children born to Tufnell Cowper Alliston Barrett and his wife Catherine
Tufnell Sealy D Barrett.    Sep Qtr 1901 Belper 7b 667
Betty Hughes R Tufnell Barrett.  Sep Qtr 1905 Belper 7b 679
Hoey Cowper S Tufnell Barrett.  Dec Qtr 1906 Belper 7b 638

I think it must have been Tufnell Sealy Douglas Barrett who reported the death of Emily Ricketts

Moderator comment: the 1911 census policy here hasn't changed. Please do not post information that is not available from the free indexes

When I looked at this originally, for some reason I thought the watch tower was a separate building behind the house, but now I see there is a drain pipe of some sort running up the house and straight up into the watch tower

This is an extract from British History online.  Shaw House is on the present maps about a mile and a half north of Upper Hulme

The digging of coal was included in the licence granted in 1596 or 1597 by Sir Henry Bagnall, lord of Leek manor, to Thomas Jolliffe, a Leek mercer, to exploit the waste in Leek and Leekfrith, and coal pits recorded in Leek manor in the early 18th century were probably in Leekfrith. (fn. 162) Six colliers lived in the area around Shaw House on the east side of the Roaches in 1841, but only one in 1871.

The convent is there on the 1911 census. Registration district 436. Sub district 3, Enumeration District 3, but unfortunately Emily isn't there.  The head of the convent is Charlotte Helen Bellman who is 65 in 1911

As she was a midwife, I wonder if she was out delivering a baby and just didn't get recorded on the 1911 census

I think the third line says 'Accommodation for 30 Persons'

Hi Chris,

A bit of a long shot.

there are 2 - Winifred Rigby's born West Derby in 1903, I know she would be only 15
but not impossible. and as James was born in West Derby.

Births Sept 1903
Rigby  Winifred    W. Derby  8b 680

on the 1939 register she is living in Lewisham.
Winefried Rigby married Michael J Brew. Liverpool. June Qtr 1941 8b 1390

Winefried Brew died in Norwich Norfolk in 1975. she was b.23/8/1903
Michael J Brew also died in Norwich in 1988 he was b.14/12/1906

Births Dec 1903
Rigby  Winifred     W. Derby  8b 473
Married Matthew Donnahey West Derby June Qtr1926 8b 833

On the 1911 census both were aged 7 one was Winifred and the other was Winnie.
in West Derby, I don't have further access to the 1911 census. Maybe a connection could be made to find Mrs Lawless.

Marj

Thanks Marj. It is possible as on James birth certificate Winifred had no occupation. Maybe she was young. I will certainly try to follow then through
