The Common Room / Thanks for connecting an adoptee with family
« on: Monday 05 April 10 01:23 BST (UK)  »
This is a post to thanks the Moderators of this site for putting the time into helping others.
I would like to give Rootschat a big Thank You.

Through this site I have made contact and been able to put an adopted person living in Australia in contact with her biological half sisters living in Scotland.  It was an unusual surname - her biological surname - and after posting it many years ago when the site first started.

I will not go into more details but only say that she is now aged 69yrs and has just found her family  THANKS TO THIS WEBSITE.

Herefordshire / Poole/Bate family
« on: Monday 05 April 10 00:59 BST (UK)  »
Searching for the death Jeffrey Francis POOLE's wife Mary BATE.  He was the Station Master at Dinmore Railway Station, Bodenham, Herefordshire in 1881 census.
1881 Census
Station Master Dinmore, Bodenham
Jeffrey Francis born 1841 born Brighton Sussex
his wife Mary born Caynham, Shropshire.
daughters
Margaret Ann born 1878 Bodenham, Hereford
Caroline Frances born 1880 Bodenham, Hereford.
He is not there after 1880.  As new Station Master

In 1891 census the only member of this family is probably Caroline Frances. 11, born Dinmore, at The Orphan Assylum, Wolverhampton.  Staffordshire.  Can assume - which one should never do - that maybe the other members of the family were either dead or living elsewhere.

Would like any information on daughters Caroline and Margaret.

Thanks

Travelling People / Chasing RAINBOW family
« on: Thursday 21 June 07 01:23 BST (UK)  »
I am researching my ggggrandmother Susanna RAINBOW born 1795 in Broadway, Worcester.  She married Joseph Coles in 1826 at Radway Warwickshire, and died 1879 in Birmingham Warwickshire.

I have just been told that RAINBOW was possibly a Romany or Gypsy name.  As I know nothing about her ancestry thought that maybe someone could help.

Nottinghamshire / GAUDIN family
« on: Tuesday 23 January 07 00:11 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Charles Augustus Gaudin, was born 1881 in Australia, died 1947 England.  He joined the Boer War, and then onto England, where he joined the Sherwood Forresters.  He married Martha Dexter (d1954) in 1915.  They had one son as far as I know.

So I am researching their son, Charles Harold Gaudin b1929-1995), he married Joan Slack in 1954.

I don't even know if he had siblings.

Looking for any connections to any of this family.

Armed Forces / Gaudin Charles August
« on: Saturday 09 December 06 02:23 GMT (UK)  »
My granduncle Charles Augustus Gaudin born 1881 Sydney Australia, joined the Australian Army and went to the Boer War.  He next turns up enlisting in the Sherwood Foresters in 1903.  He was injured in 1911 and pensioned off in 1919.
What I am searching for is some more information on the Sherwood Foresters.  I do not know what unit he was in.
He died at Luton 1947, and as far as I know didn't come back to Australia.

I found information on the Boer war Australian website in the resourses - thanks very much as it is more than the Australian War Memorial.

Any help appreciated

The Common Room / SADLER and ROBERTS
« on: Thursday 22 June 06 00:14 BST (UK)  »
Don't know where to post this message.
Researching a SADLER family with children born after 1900.  Presumably the mother is a SADLER and the father I know is Thomas/John/Arthur ROBERTS.  He was born in 1865 and married in the 1890s and had a family of Roberts' children.  They came to Australia in 1922.
Then he has fathered the following children but they are registered as SADLER.
Sidney SADLER
Bert SADLER
Frederick SADLER
Katherine SADLER
Phyllis SADLER married Alex PALMER
Dorothy SADLER
Winifred SADLER - married Howard ???
Mabel SADLER - married Ken ???

I know one of the SADLER grandchildren was researching the family.
Any help appreciated.
