Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Family Tree Chart
« on: Saturday 26 September 15 23:51 BST (UK)  »
I would like to print a family chart so that my daughters can see their ancestors. I have a tree on Ancestry which they can look at but, like most young people, they don't have time to explore it all as it is petty big.
How can I get a tree printed with the main ancestors that could be framed.
      Thanks for any suggestions

I am helping a friend look for his 1/2 brother. G Jefferies was born in 1930's in Bedfordshire.Mother Norah Kathleen M Johnson, father George PG Jefferies. I've been told that G. was in the Army but I can't find any record of it.I can't find a marriage or a death record. He had a brother,B A,born 1930's who became a policeman in Manchester.
Any ideas where I should look?

Cumberland / Mounsey
« on: Wednesday 29 July 15 22:22 BST (UK)  »
I am helping a friend research their family. The Mounseys came from Dacre in Cumberland.I've managed to get back to the 1760s.My friend told me that,he was told by his gran, that,in the 1600s the Mounseys were Royalty.
Could it be that they were big land owners back then?or kings of an area before England became a single kingdom?
   Any help comments please.

Down / Beggs
« on: Monday 22 June 15 20:44 BST (UK)  »
My great grandad,Thomas Gunning,1856-1925,went to live in New Zealand possibly about 1892,leaving his wife and children behind in Glasgow. They all came from Newtownards Co Down.In 1901 Thomas married Mary Brown,a widow from Glasgow,in Dunedin. He was committing bigamy but probably because he was so far from home he thought no-one would know except his brother James, who went to Dunedin in the 1870s.Somehow after he married Mary,he adopted the middle name of Beggs.I'd like to know, where he got that name from.I've tried grandparents but no-one fits Can anyone help please

Lanarkshire / Owners of lairs
« on: Friday 19 June 15 21:40 BST (UK)  »
Recently, while trying to find burial records for Glasgow cemeteries,I came across a site listing lair owners, unfortunately no cemeteries I'm interested in but it got me thinking. What happens when a lair doesn't have a living owner?
I found the deeds to my grandparent's grave when my father died and I had them registered to me but there must be many, many lairs that "no-one" owns.
If I found graves belonging to family but that have no owner, could I claim them as a relative.
   Thanks for any info

Lanarkshire / Mort Cloths
« on: Sunday 10 May 15 22:18 BST (UK)  »
Please can someone explain to me the use of mort cloths.I know that if a family didn't have one for the deceased, they would rent one.Where did they rent it from? Why did they need one,how big was it,was it placed over the coffin and why? When did it stop being normal practice?I believe they were used in Ireland too.As my father's family were from Glasgow and Ireland it would have been something used for the deaths of many family members.
Why did women not attend funerals, only the males of the family even if the deceased was female. When did that practice stop.
Thank you for any information,up until a few years,I knew nothing about these practices.
