The Common Room / Re: Leaving money to a bank

I'm not sure. This is what the probate index says. I just haven't come across it before. I have only ever seen names on these lists. I have seen solicitors bring named and I've assumed that is to allow them to administer the estate. Never seen a bank doing this though

The Common Room / Leaving money to a bank

I have a probate record for someone leaving their money to the National Provincial Bank Ltd. I know she had a son and they were not estranged and he would have been in his 40s, married with children and living in this country. She was a widow at this point. She died in 1965. Under what circumstances would she leave her money to a bank? Would it be a trust for someone?

Surrey / Gravestone look up

This may be a long shot but:

If anyone happens to be passing St Marys Church, Oatlands, Weybridge
I'm trying to find out if Peggy/Margaret Eileen Rosen has a gravestone and what it says.

Her funeral was at the church in February 2005 but her cremation was in Poole, Dorset. Her husband could be either Ivor or Alfred. I don't even know if she has a headstone or a memorial plaque. Poole crematorium have confirmed she does not have a headstone there.

I have contacted the church but have no answer yet.

Many thanks

We thought he enlisted with royal irish first ! Where have you found this info - so I can learn!

We have his national registration card given in 1915 which lists 12 Irish rifles  10 company and underneath says 19 June 1916 - London regiment

Oh ok. So the division was relieved and he was deployed elsewhere, but when 12 Irish became effective again he rejoined. Have I understood that correctly?

Were soldiers seconded into other units temporarily? I'm trying to account for how he was transferred to London Regiment in 1916 yet was captured with the 12 Irish in 1918. I've looked now at the order of battle and the London regiment was not involved in the battle in which he was captured, so he definitely was back with the Irish then.

That's a bit of a mystery then
I thought the Battle of Messines was in 1917

And is the number under his name his prisoner number or another regiment number?
