Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Re: 51 Wish Street Southsea 1860

Hi, I've only just joined Rootschat, & spotted your post of a while back.
I live in Portsmouth.
Wish street only existed between 1810 & 1867, when it gave way to other housing development.
If you have a modern map, it ran somewhere between the current roads of Landport Terrace & Green Road.
I don't have an historical map of this area, but if I come across one I'll scan & send you the Wish Street
area.
Regards,
Alan.

Surrey Completed Look up Requests / Farnham Road Traffic Accident Death 1946
« on: Thursday 04 August 05 14:45 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone give me some pointers as to information sources please.

We have just obtained a death certificate for my Wife's Grandfather,
Thomas Richard MANWARING. We have no other information about  the last 20 years or so of his life.
This certificate is our only source to date.

He was described as a street musician of no fixed abode, and died 11/03/1946 at 25 Hale Road (we presume the hospital?), following complications arising from a road accident.

The certificate states that he was struck by a motor lorry, whist pushing a pedal cycle with trailer attached (for a barrel organ / whatever).
There was a coroners inquest resulting in an open verdict.

We have anecdotal evidence that the accident occurred  quite a while before death, and he may have been hospitalized for some time, before pneumonia set in.

To the point now.

1) What  local Newspapers were published covering Farnham in 1945/6 , as it is possible that the accident was covered.

2) Were coroners reports ever made public.

3) Would he have required a license to play music in public at that time.

Many Thanks.

Alan.

Would someone be so kind as to check for :

Thomas MANWARING, born Wrockwardine abt 1813.
Also, his future wife, Emma LEIGHTON, same place, abt 1809.

Am trying to locate  members of either family resident around this time.

Many Thanks,

Alan.
