Hi Carole,
Thank you very much for this. I will see if Emma's relatives fit into
the skimpy info I have about her line - It seems likely this is the correct one.

Hi Helen, many thanks for the offer.
I know little about my MANWARING & LEIGHTON roots in Shropshire.

Manwaring could be spelt Mainwaring, as apparently this was
commonly written by enumerators if the person wasn't sure.

Thomas Ma(i)nwaring born abt 1813 Wrockwardine, his wife
Emma Leighton born abt 1809 also Wrockwardine.
Marriage not until 1842, so any folks with these names around in 1841 showing on
your records would be helpful.

Regards,
Alan.

Ross & Cromarty / Dingwall Residents Directories 1916-24

If anyone has a Kellys, or similar directory coving Dingwall during this period,
could you try to locate a Thomas Manwaring. I'm not sure of the years, but he was present
for 3 or 4 years between 1916 & 24.
Thank you.
Alan.

Hi Debbie, Many thanks for the description, very helpful.

My ancestor is Thomas MANWARING, born Wrockwardine abt  1813.
Living in 1861 at 179 Donnington Wood (does this still exist?)
He had by then married Emma LEIGHTON, also born Wrockwardine abt 1809.

Regards,

Alan.

Shropshire / Coal Charter Master - Donnington Wood

An ancestor is described in the 1861 census as being a Coal Charter Master.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what that would have entailed?

I haven't yet visited the area, but is his residence in Donnington Wood significant, in terms of his trade?

Thank you.
