Hi,

Anyone know the history of Lomas Street, Stockport around 1911. A large number of people lived at 16 Lomas St. and I'm trying to figure out what was there....workhouse etc. Thanks

Hi Carol8353,
You probably already know this, but Maccesfield Cemetery has the tree of light, with stars named in honour of the dead, along with a choir, brass band, bell ringing in December. I find this so amazing, the British really know how to honour their dead....puts us Canadians to shame. They have offered to put up a star for me in honour of my great great grandmother's sister. Again, amazing. I was feeling rather bad about her as she spent most of her adult life in Parkside Mental Institution and then was buried in a pauper's grave (unmarked). I felt she remained unmourned, but now I can change that. Brings tears to my eyes. Without you I couldn't have done this, so many many thanks.

Hi Carol8353, I emailed the cemetary as you suggested, and got a response back this morning. I found my great grandmother's sister. I am so happy, it made my day.  Thanks so much for you help.

Thanks Crisane, what a speedy reply. The web site was very helpful.

Is there a cemetary in Maccesfield.....perhaps a pauper cemetary?

Can anyone tell me about an insane asylum in Maccesfield. I found a relative on the 1911 cenus listed as a patient, with the infirmary of lunatic. (how awful)
