The 1841 where he is in the same property as Thomas Armstrong/Martha and Samuel Thomas's occupation is given as lab and in the next column where it asks whether born in County there is a Y for yes the same as Thomas, Martha & Samuel.
The census was taken in St Mary le Bone, Middlesex therefore the Y indicates bn Middlesex (though that can often be disproved on later census).

Rosie

Thanks, I understand
Would be great if I could find either of them prior to their marriage in 1808

Maybe the census entry I found was wrong - it looks as though Thomas bn c1781 Middlesex is in Marylebone with son Thomas bn 1811 and son Samuel 1821. Living Little James Street.

Yes I know about them post 1808. Although I can't find a Death for either
It is pre 1808 I am really interested in

Is the Thomas I found in 1841 yours then - if so it states he was born Middlesex.  Perhaps you could let us know when/where you have them so we can locate exactly who you are looking at.

When was the last child born?

Rosie

This is quite confusing. My thoughts are below

In 1841 Census. Thomas Armstrong aged 60 with a Samuel aged 20
At Little James Street, Marylebone (now called Lisson Street)
I don't see another son Thomas 30 (???)

I don't understand the reference to him being born in Middlesex The summary says so, but I can't see evidence on the actual census. Perhaps you could help me on this

On the same Census page of the census Thomas's son also Thomas aged 30 with wife Martha 30 and children Elizabeth 9, Ann 3 and Joseph 1

Does this help
Thanks again
Rob

I am a Muppet  ;D

Off course the Thomas you referred to is the Thomas I have mentioned on the same Census page with his family Martha, Elizabeth, Ann and Joseph (all born in Marylebone)

Still need evidence of Thomas senior being born in Middlesex?

Thomas senior in addition to Thomas (1809) had sons John(1812), Henry Joseph (1815) and James (1817)
I think that is all, but you may tell me different?

Hi only a possible for Thomas Armstrong:-

Baptism 27th October 1782 Born 30th September 1782 St Luke, Finsbury, Islington, Middx Father John occ Brewer Mother Catherine

EDIT possibly not him, as their is another living in Greenwich 1841/51 shown on 1851 as b London Middx c 1781
Keyboard86

Yes I have seen these two possibilities. But it may be impossible to prove which it is or perhaps neither.

I am guessing that as circa 1800 coincides with the opening of the Grand Union Canal in Paddington, that both Thomas and Sarah came from elsewhere

My hope is that if I can locate where Sarah Armstrong (nee Broadfield) came from perhaps Thomas came from the same place. A big ask but a possibility

Thanks for your interest so far, much appreciated
Would be great if I could solve this

My x4 Great Grandparents Thomas Armstrong and Sarah Broadfield were married on 22nd November 1808 at St Marylebone Middlesex

I can find nothing about them prior to the marriage
It may be that they came from outside London/Middlesex

They subsequently lived in Little James Street, Marylebone

Very grateful for any help
