I am finding it impossible to trace my Great x4 Granfather prior to his marriage in 1808.
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated - thank you in advance

I have one potential lead which it would be great to either prove or dis-prove
Could -  the Thomas Armstrong born on 24/8/1781 at The Holborn Lying-in Hospital, Endell Street, London (Parents William and Sarah (?) of St Clement Danes) -  be my Great x4 Grandfather?

And on 29/7/1753 twins William and Mary Armstrong were born also at The Holborn Lying-in Hospital, Endell Street, London. Parents John a ‘joyner’ and Mary from Carlisle
.......Could this William be Thomas’s parents?
(William's sister Mary married a John Green in 1774)

What I do know is:

22.11.1808: My Gtx4 Grandfather Thomas married Sarah Broadfield at St Mary-le-bone
20.7.1830:  Sarah died at Lisson Place, Marylebone
1841: Census Thomas in Marylebone aged 60 (= birth year 1881!!)
4.11.1859: Thomas dies in Little James Street, Marylebone aged 85 (= birth year 1774!!)

All of Thomas's children and grand-children lived in the Lisson Grove area of Marylebone

I have my fingers crossed that someone might be able to find Thomas pre 1808
Thanks in advance for your efforts

I would appreciate some help from others cleverer than me!!

I have got stuck on my Family Tree as I am unable to discover the parents and thus ancestors of a Nicholas Ellis who was born in Whitechapel, London in July 1578. He was married to a Margaret Plested. They had a son John born in 1609 also in Whitechapel, London. John was married to a Sybill Craddock on 25th January 1632.

I have looked at many other Trees proporting to be the same Nicholas Ellis but I dont believe the links hold up.

There is one potential Tree which I can't verify which leeds to the Warren Family, but I can't prove when the surname changed to Ellis

It would be fantastic if anyone out there could unravel the mystery

Family History Beginners Board / Short Service Attestation - John Armstrong Scott

Hi I am looking for some help and guidance

I am searching for information on a John Armstrong Scott who was born
in St Pancras in 1880. His father David Scott came from Perth, Scotland

I have come across a Short Service Attestation dated 16th December 1897
This appears to relate to him enlisting in either the Royal Scots Greys or Dragoons of the Line

I can not find any other informaton whatsoever ideally I would like to know
Where he served?
How long he served for?
and find his Service Record?

Very grateful for any help

It may turn out that Mr Scott was already married, so they could not legally marry.

Anyways, I realize you are only looking for the marriage, but I wanted to point out that on another forum back in 2011, someone was searching for the exact scenario (as in, 262 Victoria Park Dr for a birth in 01 Mar 1925, parents living at 85 Albert St).  If this wasn't you, I can dig the link out of my history so you can try to connect with this person.... maybe they found the answers to your mystery.
Could well have been me, but perhaps you could dig out the link just in case
Thanks for your interest and help

I was googling about and found a tree  :)

I had entered 262, Victoria park  road , Hackney. 1925.

there was a birth Dennis John SCOTT born 1st March 1925, at that address ?

sorry my eye's are getting tired and my brain is malfunctioning  ??? ::)

is this the same guy We are chasing to see if He was adopted or not  ???

Yes correct person
The Tree you have discovered could well be my own !!!
But interestingly the christian name is misspelled  Dennis should be Denis
Any chance you could post a link to your find
Many thanks for spending time on this, I am most grateful
