Thank you everyone for the information.

I spoke the lady at age croft and she was very helpful and did some further research and said that they have a grave stone for that grave she told me when he was buried etc
If its  still their though from what you say is another thing.

I looked at the cemetery on google maps and thought the ground looked very different in that section..
At least I know what to expect thank you both very much.
Have a good weekend  :)

Lancashire / Weaste Cemetary map help & abreviation?
« on: Thursday 17 June 10 13:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi everyone

I have just found out where my Great Great Grandfather is Buried in Weaste Cemetery.
this is the information they gave me at age croft.
Plot 33 ,Grave number 1197.
Buried 27th sept 1905 burial number 210755

Here is a link to a PDF file of the cemetery can anyone who has been there or can understand it help me? am I right in thinking he is in the section that says Diss 33?  and does this mean its disused and probably nothing really to see ie grave stones?

Only I don't live in the area and, as I am disabled hubby has volunteered to visit for me.
Oops sorry forgot to put the link its http://www.salford.gov.uk/weastecemetery.htm
Thank you so much for your help  :)
Best wishes Rose

There is a marriage in 1869-Chorlton.
James Kirkwood
Other 3 on same page
Mary Harrison
Mary Ellen Ross
Mary Gilbody

Jane

That would be the right one for James and Mary Gilbody :) I do have their wedding certificate, and Johns Birth which was in 1873 but there is nothing on the census.

I would love to know where he went he seems to disappear after the death of his parents.  I know he Married Fanny Cowley before he went of to the Boar War. I just cannot find him on the
the 1881, or 1891 census and obviously the 1901.
Thanks for your help
Best wishes Rose

HI Jane

This family is confusing  :) and I have been struggling for a long time with them.
You have the correct family. James and Mary are Johns parents Emma his Sister but she died.
I wondered if the Joseph Next door could be a brother to Mary as that is her
name before Marriage.
Sorry if I have not explained things fully its so confusing.
Thank you for your help its appreciated

Hello RoseCrystal

I don't know whether the following information may help you trace a place of birth and my apologies if it has nothing to do with your family .
On the unfilmed census of 1851 (HO 107 2220) for Ardwick there is a John KIRKWOOD aged 36 years
living at 1 Meridian Street , Ardwick together with his wife Isabella , also aged 36 years . Both are recorded as being born in Scotland , but no town is recorded .
However, John is shown as having the occupation of policeman .
It maybe just coincidence that he has the same name as the John KIRKWOOD you are looking for and the same country of birth you have mentioned .
I was wondering if you thought he might be related to your family as it is in the same area as Chorlton .
If you think that it may have possibilities I would suggest you E mail the curator at the Greater Manchester Police museum as it is most likely that he would have been a Manchester Policeman . I have had dealings with the museum and they are most helpful . They may have a town recorded for him on the date of his appointment .
Their E Mail address is police.museum@gmp.police.uk
I hope I have'nt sent you on a wild goose chase ! Good luck .
Eric

I HAVE ACCESS TO AFEW DIRECTORY'S IF YOU GIME SOME DETAILS WILL LOOK ON THEM FOR YOU? I WOULD ALSO POST YOUR REQUEST ON THE ARMED FORCES BOARD TO FOR THE BOAR WAR PART? hAVE YOU LOOKED FOR ANY OF THE FAMILY ON THE CWGC SITE/ JUST INCASE ANY DIED IN WW1?
MIGKY

HI there Migky
Thanks for the response I have looked briefly at the historical directories and have found earlier on it did not give any further info on James or John.
You never know, might find John when was a child,. I know John Kirkwood Survived the Boar war and he also served in the WW1 too. What is a puzzle is where he was in those
Years after his Parents died.
This is the family in 1841

In 1861 John appears

HI I hope for some ideas about two problems I have within the family I am researching. One is James  KIRKWOOD born in Scotland circa 1806? He died in 1865.

The Kirkwood family lived in Chorlton upon medlock. I have James in 1841,1851, and 1861 Census he was a Weaver, my problem is I cannot find out who his Parents where because I have no Idea where in Scotland he was born! Does any one have any ideas or should this be the end of the line:(

I would love to find out what happened to John Gilbody Kirkwood the Grandson of the same family Born 1873 Chorlton, Hulme .

His Mother Mary died in 1875  and I believe the Father also called James Died in 1879 in Chorlton Workhouse .

I cannot find John Kirkwood  in any census!

He did Marry a Fanny Cowley in 1898 in Salford, in the 1901 Census she is living with her Parents I believe he served in the Boar War which would explain his absence in that census but not in the 1881, and 1891.

Any help would be appreciated, I can only use the Internet because of Ill health thank you.  :)
