Could it be the application for adoption number or NHS number. Without seeing how it appears is difficult to know.

Sorry haven't been here.
Pre 1849 the Cornhill was used for open air sales and in 1849 the Cornhill market was built there.
It included a cellar for storage, which I remember it being used as a pub called the Cornhill Vaults in the early 70's.
It is located just off but part of the  high street, so I think it's the correct area.
Just a bit of history for you  :).

I wonder if it was in the Cornhill. Oats, corn etc were sold there at one time.
