Lancashire Lookup Requests / Agnes WILKINSON - Goosnargh
« on: Sunday 24 September 06 10:18 BST (UK)  »
Hello to all...

I really need some help with this one...

I am in contact with a fellow researcher and we know we are investigating the same woman, but have some conflicting information about her...

Agnes (Armitage?) WILKINSON was born abt. 1824 in Goosnargh, Lancashire, England.

She married Samuel ANSELL in 1854 in Derby, Derbyshire, England.

What I am really wanting to confirm are the names of her parents...

My fellow researcher has her parents listed as Richard WILKINSON & Alice CLIFTON, married on 25 August 1819 in Goosnargh, Lancashire, England.

We only know of two of their children, Agnes and her older sister Helena, born in 1821.  Incidentally, Agnes' sister Helena married a Francis James ARMITAGE.  Armitage is the middle name I have listed for Agnes!!!  Too confusing...   ???

Anyway, all help will be gratefully received.

Best Wishes,
Sarah WALKER (m.s. HALL)

Moray (Elginshire) / MANTACH/MANTOCH
« on: Monday 05 June 06 04:19 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for information on the MANTACH family from Speymouth...

John MANTACH married Margaret BROWN on 9 August 1744 in Speymouth.

I know of two of their children:
Elspet MANTACH - born 8 April 1747 in Speymouth
John MANTACH - born 7 August 1751 in Speymouth

I'm sure there would have been more than two children born to this couple...

Their son, John MANTACH (born 1751) married Jean HOSACK on 21 June 1772 in Bellie.

I have been told that the MANTACH/MANTOCH family can be traced to Rothes, Morayshire, Scotland.  They were farmers and tacksmen for at least two hundred years.  The only place where the name MANTACH occurred was in one community - Garmouth, in the Parish of Speymouth, Morayshire, Scotland.  After 1775 the Speymouth spelling reverted to MANTOCH.

Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated.

Best Wishes,

Looking for information about the death of Ann Marie WEST (m.s. HARBOUR).

She married David WEST on 1 June 1836 in Bepton, West Sussex, England.

She appears to have died before the 1851 census because her husband David was listed as a widower.

Problem: On her daughter's (Elizabeth) death certificate in 1877 she is listed as Nanny WEST (m.s. HEDGER)???

Can anyone help with a death between 1836 and 1851?

Much appreciated.

Moray (Elginshire) / Barbara RUSSELL - born abt. 1825 Fochabers, Moray
« on: Saturday 17 December 05 01:35 GMT (UK)  »
In the 1851 census of Deskford, Banff, my Barbara ANDERSON (m.s. RUSSELL) was listed as:

Barbara; Age: 26; Farmer's Wife; Born: Fochabers, Moray.

However, I cannot find any record of a Barbara RUSSELL being born abt. 1825 in Fochabers or anywhere in Moray!  (I have checked Scotland's People...)

Barbara married James ANDERSON on 29 June 1844 in Deskford, Banff.

If anyone can help, I would be very grateful.  Without this information I cannot continue to research my husband's great great great grandmother.
