« on: Thursday 07 August 08 11:35 BST (UK)  »

My wife is trying to find the first name of her grandfather he died around 1930, 30 years before she
was born. He married Kate Harriet Convoy.
This is what we know from Freebmd, Kate Harriet Convoy March Q 1907 Romford 4a 631, but
Goddard is not shown on that page my wife thinks his name may have been Henry, but is not sure.

Thanks for your help

In 1857 would a Widow as quoted on her remarriage certificate have to prove by showing the death
certificate of her last husband to the vicar or some other official before she could remarry?

The Common Room / Run out of ideas what can I try now ?
« on: Friday 25 July 08 17:32 BST (UK)  »

Trying to prove the Callison's came from Denmark or nearby the last idea I had was to check the
Nation Archives BT114/4 mariner records. This was the reply.

"Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to locate
the requested material within the specified document."

Have been looking for Peter Callison and his son Peter Frederick the last certificate I have is the son's marrage  in 1842 at Tynemouth only got the fathers name off that certificate the son's wife remarried in 1857 he may have died between 1855-1857 can't find a death certificate for him.

Always missing from census when I found his family, maybe at sea, found his brother John on 1851 census he said he was born in the Cape of Good Hope South Africa would have been around 1818.

Kind people on Rootchat have looked on Ancestry, NBI, deaths at sea, BVRI for me I have been to the family records center 3 or 4 times, Freebmd, Familysearch, but not found them.

At a loss what to try now, any ideas would much appreciated.

My son has two hard drives in his computer as the original got corrupted and the PC would not
start properly.  A friend of his installed a second hard drive about a year ago.

We would now like to wipe the original corrupted hard drive ourselves using the system recovery tool on the partition area of the hard disk or the recovery DVD we made when we first had the PC.

Can you start the PC with the new hard drive and swap over to the old drive or as the instructions
for a PC that is not responding (starting the PC with the corrupted drive) by pressing the F10 key before the normal startup?

Just don't want to wipe the wrong drive.

The PC is running xp, my son wants to use the old drive as a backup for all his music.

Sorry if this sounds a bit basic, but I am not that computer literate and do not want to make a mistake.

Thanks and Regards,
