The Lighter Side / Ever wish you had just asked ?
« on: Saturday 21 April 07 22:16 BST (UK)  »

Big regret when I was at school one of my friends aways said he was related to John Travers Cornwell, but was known as Jack won The VC at the battle of Jutland WW1 1916 stayed at his
gun awaiting orders after being badly wounded  died later aged only 16.The VC and the gun from the ship are at the war museum London seen them many times.
Wish I had now only asked him how he was related like I suspect many people who have now
become interested in history/ family history lost the chance when people were around.

Occupation Interests / Nation archives mariner records
« on: Sunday 07 January 07 20:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi everyone

Looking for Peter Callison and son Peter Frederick, always missing on census all I know is that the sons family were in North Shields around 1841 -1855ish. Both Peters were shown as mariners
on sons marriage.
What I would like to know is if they were just seamen/fishermen and not master mariners or mates might they be recorded at Kew

Hi

Just Curious on the 1841 census the roads mostly seem to exist on a modern map.....

Bell St, Charlotte St, and Linskile St. Callisons were living there 1840- 1855 ish. What is it like now?

Thanks
