In the 1901 Census we have two ancestors residing at the above college.
We are curious as to why they were sent there. What kind of school was it?

Samuel Smith 14 and Joseph Smith 12 from Tullynaskeagh nr Bailieborough Cavan.
Samuel died in WW1 and Joe emigrated to Australia.
Thank you

That's food for thought. Mary Ann certainly kept busy!
Could the McLean name refer to a possible father?
In those days would a child have been taken off a mother if it was felt that they were not being looked after?

Still struggling to find any other appropriate birth record for Joyce

I was thinking along the same lines regarding her name.
Am trawling through English records at moment.

However there is a Joy Burdett age 4 in the 1901 Roscommon Ireland census. Parents both English.
I know the age is wrong .
Having trouble finding that family in 1911 census.

I have found a death record for a  Joyce Burdett on 29th January 1926 age 14  and a half. From Lisball  farmers child. She died from TB and the informant was an Annie Waller guardian of the above.

Information on irishgenealogyie

I know who Annie Waller nee Thompson is but don't know anything about Joyce.

As I have not come across this before would Annie have had to complete paperwork for this arrangement or could it have been a mutual agreement between families?
Might she have been paid for this or money given for Joyce's upkeep?

At the moment struggling to locate a birth for Joyce. Still looking.

Would a witness have to be of a certain age. Over 16?
Thank you

Thank you.

Would it be usual practise that the majority of witnesses on marriage records  in the 1800s are other family members?

Can the father of the bride / groom also be a witness ? Would they have to be a witness if their daughter/son was a minor?

I think that  there is a possibility that the Thomas Waller (witness)  could be Mary Jane Magill 's step father.

Cavan / Mary Jane Magill marriage 1857. Need help with reading record.

Mary Jane Magill age 15? From?  Married James McCullagh 25 from Drumhillah on 25th Feb 1857 Killinkere church.

One witness is Thomas Waller.

Sorry but I cannot make out their fathers names, where Mary comes from nor the other witnesses name. I might be reading her age wrong.

The record is on irishgenealogyie
Please would someone have a look at it and tell me what they think.
Thank you

Thank you for all your hard work.
Unfortunately the only piece of information I have is that record of Sophia birth and christening.

I have no hard evidence that Rebecca and Sophia are linked to Waller families I am researching in Ireland. It's just that Sophia is a name that has been used in one of the families and as it is not a common name I was looking to see if I could get a connection.
Thank you again.
