I'm hope someone can help me with this one.  My 2x great grandfather died in 1883 and his probate states he left the value of £186 in his will.  And I would like to know what would that be valued at in today's money.

Many thanks,

Louth / Newspapers in Drogheda
« on: Wednesday 07 December 16 20:58 GMT (UK)  »
A family story has come to light in recent times concerning my grandmother and this story appears in the newspapers of Drogheda in either May or June of 1944.

Does anyone live locally to the Drogheda library which is where papers from this time would be archived?

It's a request to see if anyone wouldn't mind having a quick look if I provide the full details to the story.

Many thanks

Hope somebody can help me with this.  This is taken from a death record in Ireland:

What do you think?

Many thanks,
Stuart

Family History Beginners Board / Irish Genealogy

Hi,

I've located the death record for my ancestor John Somerville who died in 1920 in Drogheda.  Unfortunately on the Irish Genealogy site the actual image is incorrect.  I've contacted the site using the feedback form a few weeks ago but the change is still to be made.

Has anyone come across incorrect images during their own research and has the changes been made?

Regards

Louth / Christina Somerville - Elusive birth
« on: Thursday 15 September 16 12:16 BST (UK)  »
Dear All,

I'm trying to locate the birth record for my great aunt, Christina Somerville.  I've located all of the birth records for all of her siblings including my grandfather:

Patrick (1898), Samuel (1903), Alexander (1904), Joseph (1906), Christina (1907-1907), Elizabeth, (1908), Martha (1910), Bridget (1912), & Francis (1916)

The parents for the above children are Samuel Alexander & Elizabeth Smith and the family lived in Drogheda, County Louth.  I know from the census return of 1911, they had 8 children with 6 still living.  Christina who was born in 1907 was one of the missing children who came to light with the recent civil records released last Friday.  Christina who I'm looking for was born post 1911 and she is the youngest of the daughters so it narrows the time frame to between Bridget and Francis.

Christina died in 8 Nov 1979, age unknown.  My initial research months ago suggested the birth year to be 1914 but with the recent records, the parents to this Christina is Thomas Somerville & Bridget Smith.  So that eliminated that birth year from my research.

All of the birth records are accounted for on the recent civil records apart from Christina.  I've noticed a Christina Somerville born in 1915 in Drogheda according the Family Search website but don't know if that is her.

Can anyone suggest anything to locate her birth year?

Many thanks,
Stuart

Family History Beginners Board / Painter Family
« on: Sunday 01 May 16 20:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've researching the Painter family I descend from.  My 2x great grandmother, Isabella Emma Painter was born in Old Swinford, Worcestershire c: 1832 and she married John Sparry in 1855.  I've obtained their marriage certificate last week to discover her father was James Painter and they married in Saint Thomas, Dudley.  Her father is recorded as deceased on the marriage cert.

So, I've begun to find out more about the family and discovered a recorded for a Emma Painter who was christened on 5 Nov 1837 in Old Swinford to the parents James & Sarah Painter.  So, that might be her.  I've also located a possible match in the census records of 1841 for James Painter (b: 1797-1801) living on Green Lane, Old Swinford.

James is living with Sarah Nash and her children; James, Ann & Isabella (b: 1833).  I think its possibly the right family.  But its the Nash/Painter names that has thrown me and that if it is the right family then Isabella has recorded James as her father, when he might be her stepfather.

Anyone have any thoughts on this one?

Many thanks,
Stuart

Dear All,

Would someone be kind enough to lookup a baptism record for me, please? Possibly in the Worcester Hive.

I'm looking for Joseph Woodbridge who was born c.1837 in Feckenham.  His brother Martin was baptised 25 Jun 1826 and when I searched for Feckenham parish it suggested St John's.  And I wonder if Joseph is recorded in the same parish register.

The family in 1841 were living in Headless Cross.  Their parents are William & Rebecca.

Many thanks,
Stuart

Completed Census Requests / 1841 census lookup - Painter family
« on: Tuesday 22 March 16 07:53 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Would someone be kind enough to  lookup a 1841 census for me, please?

Broad Eye, St Mary, Stafford

Joseph Painter, b1811
Sarah, b1811
Ann, b1829
Isabella, b1832
John, b1840

I would like to know if there is an occupation for Joseph Painter recorded.  As it may/may not help me to identify which of the Joseph Painter's is mine out of the two death records.

Joseph (1841) or (1880).  Because I have Sarah living in Broad Eye as a Shoe Binder and a Widow in the 1851 census.  But also there is a Joseph Painter in the 1851 census who is a Cordwainer on Eastgate Street with Caroline Bailey, who he married in 1846.

This Joseph lives until 1880 and dies in the workhouse as a Widower/Shoe Maker.

I suspect it's the Joseph who died in 1841.

Many thanks,
Stuart
