World War One / 67th Divisional Ammunition Column, Tom Franks
« on: Saturday 15 July 17 14:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Last weekend a cousin and I met for the first time to discuss the Franks family of Warwick & Birmingham.

During our discussion, amongst my research notes was my cousin's grandfather Tom Franks who was born in 1884.  The notes state he served with the 67th Divisional Ammunition Column, no. 249212 and he was ranked as a Gunner.

Over the last week I've been trying to find where I uncovered this information , but can't find it anywhere and I was hoping someone might be able to see if they can find this on Tom Franks.

Hope someone can help.

Stuart

Warwickshire / George Franks & Annie Elizabeth Millin
« on: Friday 07 April 17 15:23 BST (UK)  »
I was going to post this into the Beginners board, but it's saying I have reached my limit.  Please, could the admins look into this for me.

I've recently been made aware of another branch to my family.  But first to provide some background to what I do know.  George Franks & Annie Elizabeth Millin who were both born in Warwickshire and married in 1884 in Birmingham.

The 1911 Census, shows they had seven children; Thomas, Agnes, Annie Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Lily, George, Frederick.  I descend from their son George and I've been made aware of a cousin of my grandmother of whom I didn't know about.

He was known as Harry Franks but his name was in fact Henry J Franks and he was born in 1922.  And he married Marjorie Plant in 1946.  They had five children.  This has been confirmed by my uncle & aunt to be the correct family.

But this is where it gets confusing, Henry J Franks was one of eight children; Leah, Tom, Annie, Agnes, Constance, Thomas and Sidney. And their mother's maiden-name was Hodgetts but their father Thomas married in 1916 to Mary E Stride.  Leah the eldest was born in 1917.

So I'm not sure where to go from here, as the family is correct but no marriage record exists between a Franks & Hodgetts, so not sure where the maiden-name comes from.  Any ideas would be much appreciated?

Dear all,

I've been told of a story that my 2nd great grandmother performed on stage.  And I would like to know if there is any truth to the story.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a good place to start my research?

Regards
Stuart

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Significance of white armband
« on: Wednesday 15 February 17 15:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a photograph of my uncle taken at a time when he was a little boy.  He was born in Drogheda,  Ireland in the 1920s.  And I'm intrigued as to the significance of the white armband on his left arm and wondered if anyone has an ideas on what it might mean?

Many thanks,
Stuart

The Lighter Side / What are the odds?
« on: Sunday 08 January 17 17:31 GMT (UK)  »
I've been researching a branch of my family, the Sparry family of whom I am direct descendant.  And upon a visit to the Worcester archives this week and having searched through the parish records I have uncovered the following and wanted to share my findings.

My great grandmother; Sarah Jane Sparry (1875) I knew from my research about two years ago was the daughter of John Sparry (1831) and Isabella Emily Painter.  Sarah married James Parker Woodbridge in 1899.  John Sparry (1831) is the son of John Sparry (1793) and Sarah Pardoe.  Going back another generation to John Sparry (1741) is the son of Joseph Sparry and Hannah Whitehouse.

Joseph Sparry and Hannah Whitehouse had the following children:

John (1741)
Joseph (1744)
James (1747)
Thomas (1750)
George (1754)
Henry (1757)
Benjamin (1760)
Mary (1764)

James Sparry (1747) who married Mary (maiden-name unknown) they have a daughter named Sarah.  Who went onto marry a Stephen Woodbridge in 1802.  Whereas Sarah Jane Sparry later married another Woodbridge, James Parker.

It's quite something that the granddaughter of Joseph and Hannah Sparry married a Woodbridge in 1802 and their 2x great granddaughter also married a Woodbridge in 1899.

Does anyone else have any similar stories in their family history?

Warwickshire Lookup Requests / Coughton Records
« on: Wednesday 04 January 17 17:44 GMT (UK)  »
I've uncovered two records relating to my ancestors, Nathaniel Woodbridge who died in 1786 in Coughton, Warwickshire and his son also Nathaniel who married in 1771 in Coughton.  I believe looking at a map of area that it could be St Peter's Church in the grounds of Coughton Court.

This church was initially Roman Catholic but after the reformation it became a Anglican church which is what the Woodbridge family were.  Does anyone have ideas on where I may find the parish registers for this church and time period.

Many thanks,
Stuart
