Only one I've found (not that I'm actively looking for them) is a 3rd cousin three times removed called Ernest Rutherford.

Hmmmm
Having put lots of details into the lost cousins website during the past few months and only coming up with one match I was thinking of maybe exploring the DNA route, especially when I saw the £49 offer. However if they're charging £20 postage then it's not a route I'll be taking any time soon.

Who would have thought there'd be at least 250 Florence Smiths for each search in births from 1876 to 1880. And not one of them in any search had the MMS I was looking for :( I guess it just gives 250 per search, even though there's probably more than that, and it'll give the same ones each time you search that year?

Hi Stuart,
I know it's not ideal but if you sort the results (I've found by place the best) then look for two reference numbers the same you can usually work out if you've got the correct person. Like I say not ideal but at least free!
Jen

Jen, you are an absolute star - thank you very much! Mystery solved  ;D

Add me to the "not impressed by the searches" list please.

Margaret Green - b. 11.05.1915, but other than her parents and siblings I know nothing about her. Ancestry (yes, I know) has a Margaret Green on record as marrying a George Imrie in 1845 so I thought it might be an idea to look for the death of a Margaret Imrie with Green as the other surname on SP. In the past that may have worked to my advantage, though it might have taken a few credits to find the correct death. Now? It's all speculation and probably a lot more expensive.
Obviously they didn't think about those of us who live nowhere near Scotland!

Wiltshire / Same people or different?
« on: Tuesday 06 September 16 22:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi all.

In the England & Wales, Civil Registration Birth Index in the 4th quarter of 1845 there are the following entries:

Helps Sarah      Bath              xi   12
Helps Sarah      Chippenham  viii  283
Helps Thomas   Chippenham  viii  286
Helps Thomas   Bath              xi   13

There is one Helps entry between lines 2 and 3 of a different person, but I'm not interested in that one.
The question is are these 4 different people or two people entered twice in different areas? My guess would be the latter (too much of a coincidence otherwise?) but I would appreciate the view of more experienced people than I please.

Thanks
Stuart

Forfarian - thank you very much for your help in this as well. At least that's a few less credits I have to spend in the quest to track down the Wellcoats  :)

Thanks for your help Isabel. I did of course mean the registry entries from scotlandspeople rather than ordering certificates, just the way I phrased it. It's late  ;D

Thanks very much both of you for your responses. So am I right in thinking there'd be no point getting certificate copies for both the births for example as they would both show exactly the same thing?
