South Africa / WALLER, 1881-1883
« on: Friday 19 August 05 01:59 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any connection to William Robert (known as William Henry) WALLER, wife Ellen/Nellie (nee MELDRUM), and children Kate Laura born 1883 and William Henry born 1885 in South Africa.  Kate is my grandmother. William and Ellen left England sometime betweem 1881 and 1883 when my grandmother was born - they did not marry in England. By 1889 Ellen and the children are back in England, where Ellen remarries stating herself to be a widow.   She and the children show up in the 1901 census which is how I knew them to be born in South Africa.

Ellen disappears again in 1903/4 when her children marry - did she return to South Africa? Her married name was then HUNTER.  My grandma Kate also leaves her family in 1918 - did she too return to her birth place of South Africa?

I would dearly love to know where they were born, and where my great grandfather William died.  I have tried the death notices with no luck.

I know this is a long shot, as I realise it's very difficult to find marriages and births in South Africa, without knowing where they took place.   Just fingers crossed that someone recognizes the names!

Thanks, Linda.

Northamptonshire / WALLER, Oundle and Peterborough
« on: Friday 19 August 05 01:48 BST (UK)  »
I'm interested in any connections to WALLER originating in Oundle, and moving to Peterborough sometime before 1841.  Missing in particular James born 1803 and Robert 1808 in Oundle.  I do have the 1841 census entries for Oundle.
Great great grandfather William has two sons that I also cannot account for - Robert born 1836 and Thomas 1838 both born in Peterborough. They are shown on the 1851 census with their family at Boongate Road, Peterborough, but I cannot find them beyond that.

Thanks, Linda.

The above names all married into my CHEESEMAN family - Smithen from Capel Le Ferne, CRUX from Denton, HARNDEN from Denton, Kennington and PHILPOTT from Crundel.  Any connections?

Linda.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / CHEESEMAN, Northbourne, Petham
« on: Friday 19 August 05 01:36 BST (UK)  »
I'd like to find a connection to the following "missing" CHEESEMAN siblings -

Elizabeth Ann born 1840  and James John born 1851, in Barham.  They are in Northbourne in 1861 with their parents William and Elizabeth Ann.  The family is still there in 1871, with Elizabeth gone.  I cannot find a marriage for her between 1861-1865.

James John does not show up in the 1881, 1891 or 1891 census, I can find no marriage or death between 1871-1881.

Their sibling Thomas William born 1844 is my great grandfather and by 1901 he and his family are living in Petham.  Thomas and his wife Elizabeth died in Petham in 1905 and 1911, and a son James is shown on the WW1 war memorial.  Any current CHEESEMAN connections to Petham?  My 93 year old mother never knew any of her aunts or uncles.

Thanks, Linda.
