Renfrewshire / Re: Tinto House
« on: Friday 03 June 16 16:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Renfrewshire is correct.

Don't know anything about Tinto House however a distant relative's death certificate also had minimal information.  He was in an institution and this is who registered his death rather than siblings who visited regularly.  So it may be Tinto House was some kind of institution.

If you find out that it is an institution you should try contacting the NHS archive through the Mitchell Library to see if they have any information.

Hi,

Do you know for certain there is gravestone? Do you know where in the cemetery it is?

Renfrewshire / Re: seeking relatives of RAF Sgt Duncan Rodger BLACK
« on: Friday 03 June 16 12:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I believe I have research on the family you are looking for.  It ia a few years since I researched it for a friend so will need to look it out for you.

How are you related to Duncan?

I remember though that the Blacks came from a small island near Oban - possibly had a shop in Oban too - and went to Greenock via Glasgow.  I think that Rodger was a maiden name somewhere in the past - possibly his mother - and didn't manage to trace them anywhere else except Greenock.

Will get back to you when I find the info.

 :)

Hi,

I think the house I'm looking for is Craigard as the death in 1908 was J Craig who lived there in 1900.

Have not found the time to check censuses yet.....

Thanks for your help.  I expect you have a magnificent view of the river!

Renfrewshire / Re: Is anyone researching the Langs of Renfrewshire?

Hi Leslie,

You can find this information via the Scotland's People website. If you go to the local area, you can make an appointment with the registrar who will access the same information. If you are going to be in Glasgow, book a day at the genealogy centre at the Mitchell library where you can acess lots of records on births, marriages, deaths, census and wills - again via Scotland's People.

Renfrewshire / Re: Cathcart Cemetery - Ref compartment n Lair no 2134

Hi,

Best place for this information is the council that owns the cemetery.  They have day books which record the burials for that day.  Records for Cathcart may be in Paisley but also with East Renfrewshire or Glasgow.

Have you tried

Hi,

Have you tried contacting the library in Paisley? They keep old photos and will make copies too.
