Somerset Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 marriage Chard
« on: Sunday 20 June 10 16:31 BST (UK)  »
Hi Dee-jay,
It could be indeed - Salcombe is not that far from Chardstock (though they more usually went to Lyme Regis if they went to the coast to find brides!)

I did find the Susanna Tucker m. John Parris 1802 Salcombe Regis, but was unsure as the first child, Rachel, born 1807, which seemed quite a gap for those days.

I only looked in the Parish records for deaths, but 1840 would be FreeBMD and would fit.
John was christened 20-Feb-1780 Chardstock.

Thanks, I will have to investigate Susanna Tucker further!
Cheers

Hi,
Thanks for that!

Looks like Elizabeth was from Lopen, SOM then, as I have parents for her as Benjamin Edmonds and Hannah Druce. John Edmonds was most likely her elder brother...
and Family Search has the initial of Joseph's surname wrong.

Now to try and trace Joseph's mother Susanna ... these Chardstock Parrises seem to find all their brides from other parishes!!!

Thanks again.
Completed.

Hi,
My mistake, the censuses should have read 51,61,71,81!!
Sent in hurry as World Cup watchers returning from local bar were coming in the door and demanding proper food!
1841 Joseph was living with his sister in Chardstock

Hi,
Thanks.

Having Edmonds/Edmunds on my mothers side, I tried Edmunds instead of Edmonds on my father's side on FreeBMD and have came up with
Sept 1841
Chard Vol 10 p. 480
Edmunds    Elizabeth        Chard    10   480
Hann    Lydia         Chard    10   480
LARCOMBE   George     Chard    10   480
Newberry    Eliza         Chard    10   480
PAUL    Ann               Chard    10   480
Sellars    Thomas         Chard    10   480
WHITE    Thomas          Chard    10   480

Parris Joseph Sept 1841 Chard 20 480........ and there is a husband missing.

Looks like a certificate is in order, just to find the right parish for her ancestry!
Though I was hoping just to get my GGgrandmother's birth cert. where I notice that she is registered as Margaret..... Axminster Sept 42
Christened Sarah Ann  2/10/1842 Chardstock.
1841 Margaret (and her sister Sarah Ann Anstis).
1851 Sarah Ann,
1861 Sarah Ann,
1881 Ann. (sister Anstis visiting!)
Son's birth cert. Sarah Ann Margaret
Thanks anyway Clever Clogs

Somerset Lookup Requests / 1841 marriage Chard

Hi,
I'm almost sure that the marriage I am looking for is
Joseph Parris (of Chardstock) and Elizabeth Edmonds (of Lopen?)

I looked this up on FreeBMD, but had different volume numbers on the GRO. Poor Joseph was a solitary Chard district on a page of Manchester district (Vol 20). The image on FreeBMD is not clear at all, and could be a transcription misread, as I think it should be Vol. !0. Both are Sept. qtr. 1841 page 480.

On trying to check using the search.labs.familysearch site Elizabeth Edmonds of Lopen is married to Joseph HARRIS 19/8/1841
or 8-Aug-1841.

Unfortunately 1841 census they were not yet married and by 1851 the Elizabeth living in Chardstock had died - so no clues there.

Feeling rather poor, so if someone could sort this for me without having to order a certificate....
Thank you

Herefordshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1881, 1891 and 1901 - Gough, George Albert
« on: Thursday 25 March 10 23:37 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you one and all.
Haven't been on Rootschat for some time.

The 1901 census looks like the George Albert Gough I was looking for and the marriage is  Sep 1893   Hereford    6a   976

The interest in this couple is that 'Aunt Nell' (sister to his mother) left property to my grandfather in Cleveland, Bristol and also someone, whom my mother thought was a Gough, had paid for his education at the Merchant Adventurers, Bristol. My grandfather's father had died when he was aged 4, and his mother was running a boarding house to make ends meet.

I had been looking at another Gough family - but this one also has a son Harold. I have a photo of Harold Gough 'the sporting chemist', on his hunter and this could well turn out to be the right one.

Thanks again

Sarah (Ann?) Bunnett - two ts at end (seems to be a Norfolk name although born "Middlesex")

William Webster m. Sarah Bunnett, Stow Bedon  20-Oct-1819 - I believe someone found this for me in the parish records.

One of them should have been otp.
