Thank you both!

His mother's name was Sophia Staab (maiden name: Lippert).
The name of his older brother was Bartholomeus Staab.

I'm afraid that's all I can provide on further information.
Just looked up when the father died - it was 1873. So they might have immigrated from 1873 on.

Hi there,

for years I have been trying to find any hint of my great-great grandfathers immigration the United States and/ where he lived in America.

He was born Franz Heinrich Staab, in Heigenbruecken, Germany on Aug. 4th, 1864.

When his father died, the family immigrated to the States. This must have been around 1875. While his siblings stayed there, he returned home for unknown reasons. In 1887 he married is wife in Germany. So he had returned home prior to 1887.

Though it was well known in the family that he had been in the states, it's remains a total mystery that I could nowhere find any hint of him, not even on the ship passengers list from that time.
Of course he might have changed his name - some family story says it was "Henry".

If anybody came across him in his family tree, please let me know! His brothers and sister who stayed in the U.S. very likely have descendants.

Any help or hint would be appreciated!  :D

Best wishes,
Florian

Thanks al lot, Terry! You did a great job.

That hat isn't that important I guess - in the original you could hardly see anything  :D

I really wonder how all you magicians do that!

Hi there, all you talented restorers!

You did such a trerrific job with the previous pic I had posted, so that I come up with another one, hoping you might help.

The picture shows my great-great grandfather with his second wife and children. Now, the strange thing is, that he had already died when the family photo was taken. The used an existing photo of him and put it in the picture.

As a 85th birthday present, I'd love to present my grandmother a framed picture of her grandfather (my great-great grandfather). Do you think it would be possible to crop him out, restore the part of his suit, which is hidden by the head of his wife and make him look a little cleaner?

Even though, I'm not into restoring, I can imagine it will be quite a task - but I'd highly appreciate any help.  :D

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi everyone,

I've been reading in the forum for quite some time - and I'm absolutely amazed by your skills, talent and abilites of restoring old photographs.

I do have a photo of my great-great-grandfather here. He died very young in 1891 when his daughter, my great-grandmother was only 6 months old.

A great-aunt had kept this photo and I luckily scanned it some years ago. Unfortunately, the original got lost. So this scan is all I have.

I'd highly appreciate any improvement that could be done and be very grateful for your all your efforts.

Kind Regards from Germany,

Florian
