Murrell.  I think you would have a better chance of getting help, particularly after a length of time has elapsed after your initial posting, if you headed the Subject with the surname (or more) of the family you are seeking.  Bob

Possibly it was on land once owned by a monastery, or itself may have been a monastic grange. More likely the former. I published 'Lancashsire's Medieval Monasteries' by Brian Marshall. I don't recall there was much in the Warrington area, though it wouldn't always record land owned by a monastery that may have been far away. Anothwer possibility is that it was owned by the Monk family, though if that were the case, it would more likely be called Monk's or Monks' Farm.

There is a lady mermber of the Cheshire Family History Society who keeps an index of all farm, names in Cheshire - she probably regards Winwick as Cheshire. She may have recorded information on it and let you have it.  I know her well but have forgotten her name.  When it comes to me, I will tell you.  The sec may be able to help you without you knowing her name.

Can you access the 19th century newspapers? - the Liverpool ones may have your names in. If not, then join the Lancashsiure County Library, receive a number and get cracking on-line using keywords

Pennine has covered well the answer I have received from the forum members. Possible to check the Lancashire Archives holdings on-line. Even if there is a 100years embargo on , it is thought that the Archivisit will respond and provide information on request.   Bob

I think it would be worthwhile for all you Bridges to make contact with the Lancashire Family History Society's branch in Bury and also with the society's secretary who will inform the officer who deals with members' interests. It would be useful if at least one of you joined the society.  See its website.

I am puzzled by an earlier posting which said that after a certain number of postings, it would be possible to send private messages (PMs). I thought it was possible immediately on joining. Am I missing summat?

I think that the sort of information you seek is available, subject to a time embargo. .....The Record Office is now known as Lancashire Archives.   There will likely be a charge. I can put you in touch with a chap who is researching the county's mental hospitals and will be aware of the material available.  Bob

Would you like me to post something about your offer on the Lancashire FHSoc's Yahoo forum? It will be used to ascertain of we have any members who are researching this name. The name is common in the Oldham/Rochdale area which is close to Yorkshire. Bob
