lovely jobs and translations of the original photo.  I came across an old postcard of the engine by accident when I was looking for my family.  Unfortunately the colour doesn't come across too clearly but I thought the owner of the original photo might like to see the train as others saw it.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Tents on Wheeldale Moor 1949

I've tried to lighten this photo without success. Is it possible to resurrect it?   I can see my blonde godmother in the doorway but somewhere above her is my mother with dark hair poking her head out.   The bell tent really did have all those dark rotting blotches on it due to being stored in the damp.   The blotches disintegrated into holes overnight and were stuffed with newspapers for the rest of the Easter bank holiday   :o

Your efforts appreciated.

It's very sad when they die & none of their rellies knows how to access the tree.  I was fortunate enough that the son of a link to my tree knew his father's GR password & made contact with all his father links to let us know he'd passed on.

I too think it's a large piece of  "oasis" inside a mesh basket and originally was probably a beautiful flower display.

aw Niksmum and Saddles - what lovely pictures.  I'm surprised I like them so much because I thought I'd prefer the original black and white.

I appreciate you taking the trouble to change my mind - thank you so much

Hi Irene,
Sorry if I gave that impression, the black & white photo is fine.  I was walking down memory lane and trying to describe what type of woollen materials were available.  Those were the days when you had to hang the unfinished cotton or woollen garment up for about a week before you decided on the length because the material stretched with the weight.

We're fair skinned, blue eyed; Gordon's 2.1/4 and I'm 3 yrs old so we both still had blondish hair at the time but his had darkened by the time he was 5 whereas mine was still blonde until I was 10  ::)  He must have had a reddish element because I remember as a little boy he developed freckles which weren't evident as a tot.   I can't get over how white our faces are compared to the rest of our skin - I'm presuming the arc light had something to do with it.

lol at 'cute' - I've never seen a tot who wasn't cute.

Cheers,
Rena

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / COMPLETED THANKS 1943 Clean Up Please

I'd like to request a clean up of this grubby August 1943 photo please before I send my brother the only photo in existence of him before 1946.   Due to rationing our clothes were made by our mother who had made sure the hems could be let down and the shoulders were large enough for us to grow into; in fact I remember I wore that coat on my first day to school November 1945.  The engineering company my father worked for had provided a rag bag which workers contributed outgrown clothes & materials not needed by their families and exchanged what they needed.   My coat was a lovely warm woollen tweed with light blue flecks but looking at the photo I think my brother's was made from a cut down man's suit.  If somebody can get rid of the wrinkles on my brother's lapel I'd be obliged.  Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Mozza,

Thanks for the colour addition and well done for figuring out what was what.   The white dangling cords are the ties for her red woollen hat which she's pulled down off her head.   She's wearing a thick knitted cardigan and the dark thing between her & her father is not a brown cuddly toy but shadows caused by the patterned shapes in her homemade cardigan.   slap my wrist for not putting her in colour co-ordinating clothes lol

Much obliged,
Rena
