The Common Room / Re: Probate granted twice and Administration with will
« on: Tuesday 28 February 23 22:10 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you KGarrad and CaroleW for your help.  I have now found the entries.  It seems to be a case of less is best as I only entered the basic information in my initial search this time, and the dates of probate as dates of death as you said, and up they came.  Previously I had filled everything in.  Now I just hope the person I was trying to help here in France will manage to do the same thing and acquire the wills.  I'm sure he will be very grateful to you too.

Thank you for your reply.

Regarding the probate site nothing comes up for either date, when I do a search.  Maybe I'm doing somehing wrong, but I can't see what.

The Common Room / Probate granted twice and Administration with will
« on: Monday 27 February 23 21:56 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

Christopher WALTON died on 11 October 1877.  Probate was granted to his widow on 19 February 1878 and then again to Christopher WALTON on 8 February 1905.  Would this be because the widow did not administer the estate or could there be another reason?

Both grants mention Administration with will but I have been unable to find the will on the Probate search site.  Can anyone help, please?

Thanks in advance

Regards

Judith

Europe / Re: France - Judeth Franks 1685 -1732

Hi Kaz

I can see plenty of online trees that show Judeth Franks as born in France, but unfortunately there don't seem to be sources for the info.  Have you seen a document that substantiates it?

Some trees say she was born in Paris.  If this is the case, you are unlikely to find a parish register entry as nearly all the registers were destroyed by fire in 1871.  Does the evidence for her death in Belgium which again appears on online trees give any further information do you know?

Some of the trees I've seen are on free sites - Family Search or Généanet (an English version of this exists) - so it might be worth contacting the owners to see if they can help you.

Could you tell us where you found this information, please, and the link to the UK or wherever ?

I'm not sure if you already have this information but just in case you don't : the Stanley Joseph KISSICK who died in Antibes in 1996 was born in Glasgow on 12 August 1933.

FH Documents and Artefacts / Re: Will and Sentence

Thank you very much, Bookbox. That's a great help. Unfortunately my Latin is not up to making much sense of the document but I may be able to work out what it is about thanks to your pointers.

FH Documents and Artefacts / Will and Sentence

Hello

In a register of wills proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, there is a will of 1711 in English and a number of pages later a sentence in Latin regarding the same will.  Can someone tell me what this means, please?  It appears to be some form of judgement validating the will but how would this differ from probate?  Does it imply that the will was contested?

Cordialement
