Sussex / Re: Marriage lookups please
« on: Friday 08 April 05 02:53 BST (UK)  »
The first one can't be right as their children were born 1850 and 1851.
Can't seem to make the second ones work either.  Thanks for looking anyway, appreciate it.  maybe someone else can find something.  Did you have a date on the last one you found in Arlington, because that's the right village....

Sussex Completed Lookup Requests / Wood, Hailsham, 1871 census please

Please help, I seem to have misplaced my great grandma!
Her name is Mary (Polly) Elizabeth Wood, born 1864 Hailsham.  I think her parents were Stephen Wood and Naomi Douch and am hoping this will show up in 1871.  There would have been two Douch children and perhaps a charles or a Samuel Wood who were her siblings.  Ta ever so to anyone who can look this up for me.

I worked for a Kent Woodruff, Solicitor, in Kamloops British Columbia Canada in 1989 ... so obviously the Woodruffs have emigrated at some point!  Very nice fellow, by the way.

Cork / Collier, County Cork
« on: Sunday 03 April 05 07:09 BST (UK)  »
I am descended from Collier (Robert, born Ireland 1805, William born 1833, I believe in Cork or County Cork).  William was married to Isabella Hammond, I don't know if she was born Ireland or Ontario, Canada.  They had my gg father John Henry Collier born 1858 in Garafraxa, Erin, Ontario, Canada.  I have no record of Robert's wife.  They were Church of England.

I  believe that William, Henry, Joseph, Robena may have also moved to Canada in the great migration due to famine.  I have no idea where to begin finding out how or when they emigrated, sometime between 1833 and 1858.  Very difficult to find!  If anyone has any ideas, please help.  I have exhausted my resources this side of the pond.  thanks much.

I too am related to the Woolgars ... my gg grandad William Winter married Elizabeth Woolgar, lived in Seaford, SUssex ... had 14 ... yes FOURTEEN children, I am told mom tied the children together with a rope when they went to the beach so they didn'tlose anyone!  I am on Woolgar emailing list, very helpful from time to time.  The Woolgar clan was as prolific in Sussex as my Winters and Crowhursts!

I have found a Thomas Crowhurst (11 months) and an Adelaide Crowhurst living in Battle, Sussex in 1881 British Census, both born St. Leonard's Seaford Sussex; living as "boarders" with Mary Maktelow, widow.  Does anyone have a connection here?  I cannot find who their parents were.  Janine

Sorry Mark, I do not as yet see any connection between your Crowhursts and mine ... though it wouldn't surprise me if there was a connection at some point.  Families were so large and so many remarriage to death in childbirth I have found in both my Crowhurst and Winter sides ... the search continues!  Janine
