The children's births were recorded in the registers of the Baptist church, which may explain the lack of records for James himself (since Baptists do not baptise their children).

The rmedal card makes reference to 1743 KR.

Para 1743 of the Kings Regulations 1912 says "medals which, at the end of 10 years, still remain unclaimed, will be sent to the India Office (if granted for India service) or to the deputy director of ordnance stores, Royal Dockyard (Medal Branch), Woolwich (if granted for other service) to be broken up".

So the medals were never claimed.

The address on the 1839 burial for Michael Warren was Bond Street, which is where Sophia was still living in 1841.

In July 1828 the newspapers carry lengthy reports about Michael Warren of Bond Street being indicted for keeping a common brothel there. Found guilty and fined £50, sentenced to  3-months, and to find security himself for £100 and two sureties £25 each. To remain in prison until fine paid and sureties found.

In 1833 he was in trouble again for fraud.

The only answers that should be in that column are "Whole Time" or "Part Time", so it sounds as though either the question has been misunderstood or the information is in the wrong place.

Yes - it hardly seems worth charging for it, does it?

No, you were correct in the first place.   In South Africa the comma is used where we would use a decimal point, so 4,00 is 4 rand and 0 cents.

It looks like the Priscilla Hughes who gave birth to Catherine Priscilla went on to marry Thomas Gough in 1843.  She's with him in the 1851 census, along with a daughter Catherine [Gough] aged 10,

From the births of later children her mmn was PALMER and Thomas Gough had previously been married to someone with the surname Pratt
