Hello
Does anyone know anything about the Guildford Benefit and Building Society which was set up in 1849??
I would like to know how it fared after 1850 but info is thin on the ground.

Berkshire Completed Look ups / Matthew Eggleton 1833 and Harriet Completed
« on: Wednesday 19 September 12 06:14 BST (UK)  »
Hello
Can someone find in 1861 a Harriet Eggleton, wife of Matthew. In all the other censuses bar 1881 she says born 1831/2 Chieveley. Matthew doesn't seem to know his age but was christened Shaw in 1833 which age is on 1851 and 1871.
I need to be more sure that  she was the Harriet Goddard, which marriage is on FreeBMD in 1853 before I order the cert. I cannot identify him in 1861 on FindMyPast but the ancestry one might have them.  Thanks.

Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / John Pinnock and Harriet Completed
« on: Wednesday 19 September 12 03:49 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
Can someone please help me by finding John Pinnock b 1837/8 Uley Glos. in the 1861 census. In 1851 he is with his parents William and Esther in Bath Street, Swindon, Cricklade  and in 1871 with his wife Harriet age 40 at 30 Cheltenham St, Swindon. I need to know if he was married in 1861. Also if anyone can find his actual marriage that would really solve my problem. His wife could have been Harriet Hopkins, Hyde, or Goddard.
I know I will probably need to order a couple of the certificates but at this stage don't want to spend money on the wrong one. Thanks.

Berkshire Completed Look ups / Frederick SALMON & Martha SELWOOD Completed
« on: Tuesday 11 September 12 09:22 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I have just found on FindMyPast a marriage in St Laurence, Market Place, Reading of a  Frederick Salmon, a blacksmith, and Martha Selwood,  in 1844. Both of full age.
Frederick's father was Thomas, a shoemaker and Martha's father was Alexander, an aglab. Now, the only Alexander that I know of in that area in that time frame with a daughter Martha was my 3rd great grandfather in Englefield and  then Bradfield.

I cannot find anything forward for Frederick Salmon and Martha on the censuses for an age or  birthplace verification. The only possible clue I have is from the BBI which has a Martha Salmon of Thames Street buried in Reading in 1862 age 44. This is a bit old for my Martha Selwood who was bap in 1813 Englefield.
However, it might well be her as ages are often distorted at death and burial and over time.

In 1841 there is a Martha Selwood age 20, a laundress in the Royal Berks Hospital  born Berkshire, but that is not of much help. The 1861 shows a Martha Salmon age 40 married (no husband present) with a 15yr old daughter who matches the address of the Martha in the burial. No sign of any of them in 1851 or a birth reg for Louisa.

Can anyone find my Frederick and Martha Salmon, please, or give me some advice as to where to look next if they cannot be found on the census. Until I am more sure this is the right person, I am loath to speculate on buying the Reading RD 1844 unnamed female birth cert in the hope that it is Louisa, and that her father is Frederick Salmon and mother is Martha nee Selwood.

Berkshire / Marriage Johnson and Mary Ann pre 1828
« on: Saturday 18 August 12 14:28 BST (UK)  »
Hello
Can someone who has the Berks marriage index do a lookup for a marriage between a JOHNSON and a Mary Ann, born abt 1799-1800 Englefield please? This would have been before 1828 when as a widow she married Moses DODD in Bradfield.  The first marriage was not in Bradfield or Tilehurst so maybe in Englefield or Bucklebury. I don't know if the Index covers these places.  I am trying to find Mary Ann's maiden name.
Thanks

Berkshire Lookup Requests / Richard and Sarah Wilson marriage abt 1825
« on: Tuesday 12 June 12 05:23 BST (UK)  »
Could someone do a lookup, please, in the Berkshire Marriage Index for a Richard and Sarah Wilson about 1825. In the Bradfield, Englefield, Bucklebury, Stanford Dingley area. I am hoping that Sarah is Sarah Sellwood. If so, I can follow them from where  I have found them in the 1841 and 1851 censuses.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / George DENYER Portsmouth
« on: Wednesday 04 April 12 22:02 BST (UK)  »
Hello
Any help prior to 1911 South Farnborough Hants in finding George Thomas DENYER age 29 born Portsmouth would be gratefully received.
He married Amy Rosina HOYLE in 1907.
I have found a George age 18 in Sussex in 1901 but cannot confirm in 1891 that I have the right George, so cannot go back to his parents. (not without, that is, buying his birth cert)
In 1891 there is a 6yr old George b Portsmouth, son of John 1842 Poole, a widowed tailor,  in Portsmouth, but there everything stops dead. This John died in 1893.
A baptism for George would be useful.
Yours

Surrey / Newspapers Farnham
« on: Wednesday 04 April 12 17:13 BST (UK)  »
Hello
Could someone give an opinion as to which newspaper to approach? I want to put in an advert or send a letter in an effort to trace the whereabouts of my first cousin, Sylvia Tomlinson nee Saunders b 1927 or her forward family.
Her parents were George and Millie (Emily Denyer) Saunders and the last known address I have is on George's death in 1961 which was in Farnborough. However, the death cert says  he died in Farnham which I think may be his daughter's address. Sylvia was an only child.

« on: Wednesday 04 April 12 17:09 BST (UK)  »
Hello,
I have a South Farnborough 1927 marriage cert where the groom's address is KRR Tourney Barracks.
I know that George Saunders 1901-1961 was in the Army but can someone tell me what KRR stands for, please?
