London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: Cole family
« on: Sunday 13 July 14 05:08 BST (UK)  »
Gortonboy, many thanks. The marriage of WM Cole to Louisa Whitbread in 1820 is a breakthrough. It looks correct as their son Alfred was born in 1823. It is possible that Mary was a previous marriage, but my interest is in Louisa Whitbread. Any thoughts on where the family name "Sholto" might have originated?
Regards
Pat

I am researching Robert Gazley Mack b 1851 Thorner, Yorkshire, England, d 1932 Harding, Natal, South Africa. There is a Robert Mack who served in Kitcher's Fighting Scouts (regimental no 1003).This Robert Mack joined in Durban, Natal.  Is there any way of getting further information. Could this be Robert G Mack? Robert G Mack went to Natal in the 1850s and married Caroline Bertha Rethman there in 1879. (I live in Australia)

Hi, can you assist? I am trying to get more information on my "Cole" ancestors. This is what I have:
William Nicholas Cole. Born 30/8/1783 in St James, Westminster. D 28/6/1849 in Southampton.
His wife was Louisa (obtained from their son Alfred,s birth certificate) I would love to know Louisa's maiden name and parents.
William's parents were:
John Peter Cole. B 23/10/1742 at St James, Westminster. D 28/3/1810 at St James, Westminster.
Sarah Green. B 20/6/1758 at St James Westminster. D 16/6/1802 at St James Westminster.
I have no information on either of their parents.
We also have a family name, "Sholto" from this side of the family. I would love to find out where it originated.

Derbyshire / David Bowen / Sarah Palethorp

I am trying to get some information on my ancestor, David Bowen, and his wife Sarah Palethorp. David was born in 1815 in Llandeilo Fawr in Wales but moved to Alfreton where he became a watch maker. He died in Jan 1879 in Derbyshire but I do not have more detail on his death or where he is buried. We have a family myth that he was Mayor of Alfreton but I do not know how to verify whether this is true.
His first wife Sarah Palethorp was born in Sheffield on 10 Feb 1812 and died 24 May 1872 in Alfreton. I have no further information on her or where she was buried.
I believe that David had a second wife, Dinah but have no information or maiden name.
Many thanks,
Pat Bowen

Shirley,
Thank you for your kind offer. I am keen to get any source documents relating to the Births, deaths, or marriage of Alexander Bain who was christened in Thurso in 1775 and his wife Catherine Brims.
Many thanks,
Pat

Will,
I am descended from Andrew Geddes Bain and Thomas Charles Bain, who's granddaughter Marjorie Bain married my grandfather Hendrik Johannes Visser.
I was born in South Africa, where fortunately my mother kept some newspaper cuttings on Andrew Geddes and Thomas. I now live in Australia. My brothers second name is Geddes.
