Ireland / Darby Craig
« on: Tuesday 28 September 10 09:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,
I am asking for anyones help who is conversant with irish genealogy. I have searched for this for years and have always drawn a blank so i am asking to see if anyone can help me.

My Great Great Grandparents were called DARBY CRAIG and MARY CASSIDY I have their marriage certificate and it shows DARBY was aged 24 and and MARY was aged 23 that was in 1870 in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Their respective fathers names were DARBY CRAIG (deceased) occupation a Cooper and AMBROSE CASSIDY (deceased) occupation a Farmer.
I then have a birth certificate for their first child in 1873 but their surnames at this time are recorded as CRAGG
In the 1871 Census their surname is recorded as CREGG.
From the 1881 Census DARBY goes missing and there is no other trace of him.
I have tried to search any irish records I can find but there is nothing. Has anyone out there got any suggestions for me.
Thank you

Sharon

The Common Room / Re: divorce records

it is all rather confusing as their surname changed several times from craig, cregg, cragg, think it was just their strong irish accents, i suppose when they came round to check the census details as neither of them could read and write i suppose it was just how the census taker heard it.
i have the marriage certificate and also their childrens and like you also found they were on the 1871 census and then from then on she is shown on her own as married not widowed but he is nowhere to be seen, it is all really confusing, thats why i wondered if there was some sort of divorce lists.

The Common Room / divorce records
« on: Friday 24 September 10 09:29 BST (UK)  »
hi there, wondered if anyone knows of a way of looking up divorce records for free. I have searched for my gt gt grandfather for a long time found his wife and children but he appears to have disappeared off the face of the earth so now think that he could have divorced her but dont know where or how to check that.
His name was Darby Craig and he was married to a Mary Cassidy they married in 1870 but by the 1881 census he had disappeared.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i am sorry to trouble you again but could you look back for william on the census now we know he is different, i have checked for a marriage to susannah but as yet cant find anything so thought if i go back on william might work out when he got married and also who his parents were.

sorry mary i didnt your right, because i had only just found out about mary laycock and i was told her father was william born 1839 in ossett and just accepted it which i shouldnt have, so i suspect all the inforation i have previously got from you here is now incorrect.
