I guess so :-)

Both died post 1965

Ernest John Matthew KING b 31/8/1896 Acton d 13/1/1967 Harefield
Violet Maitred COOK b 4/11/1893 Hanwell d Q2 1992 Ealing

Marriage 29/8/1917 Saltash, Cornwall

He is a Private 4th Battalion, East Surrey regiment based at Weande (?) Camp

There seems to be a sister Cook as witness. I've seen a  photo. I'm no expert but she doesn't look pregnant :-)

Dad is John Ernest George King b 30/8/1927 Marylebone d 12/10/1997 Heston

He's in the register 3 times, I think as Ernest & Ernest George, "name changed after registration on baptism 2nd Oct 1927". Haven't seen the baptism record.

Hi

Haven't yet traced his service record. The marriage cert states that he was at a training camp in Cornwall in late August 1917. He was 21, she was 24. It gave the regiment name, which my quick search suggested was later stationed at Harwich. My mum, though, says she thought he was at Ypres (timescales are tight for that).

As for the lookups, there is nothing obvious with a married name / maiden name search and too many for a married name only or maiden name only search.

Dad was born at Queen Charlotte's Hospital in Paddington, which suggests to me that his parents were worried there might be problems with the birth.

Thanks for the replies and info about registered adoptions.

My father's dead and never mentioned it. From what I understand, Mum heard the story a few years ago, so there may still be someone around who knows the details.

My grandfather, I'm told, was on active service (he certainly was in the Army at the time of the marriage) so I'm thinking it would be between 1920-1926

Hi all, I wonder if someone could let me know how I could confirm the following:

There's a story that my grandparents, finding it difficult to have a child, decided to adopt. Sometime later they did conceive my father, and rather lost interest in the adoptee.

My grandparents married in 1917, my father was born in 1927. After the war, my grandparents lived in Hanwell, Middlesex. I have their DOBs etc and their postal address. From the electoral registers I've seen, there's no record of someone coming to voting age at that address until my father does.

From the time-line, it's possible, albeit unlikely, that the adoptee could still be alive.

So where could I look for any collaboration of this?

Thanks!
