The Common Room / Re: a big gap between 'banns' dates

thanks.
i see it says 'in the three months before' ... my couple were getting close to that, that must be why they married the same day as the last banns.

The Common Room / a big gap between 'banns' dates
« on: Monday 22 December 14 22:16 GMT (UK)  »
hi, this is my first post :)
i have come across a strangeness, i thought banns had to be read the 3 consecutive sundays before a wedding however my 5xg grandparents had their banns called a month apart, 30 december 1770, and 27 and 24 jan and feb 1771. they then married 24 february. is this common?

also, i have 4 marriages within 4 years where 'bailey' is marrying 'tonks' in the same church/parish. im finding it hard to prove (definitely) that they were all related. what do you think?

i had a family of mine baptise 5 children in one go, they went on to baptise the next four a few weeks after the birth. They had just moved from one parish to another so perhaps it was to ensure the children could get poor relief if needed.

Staffordshire Lookup Requests / Re: LOCKLEY marriage Penkridge

Did your samuel also have children called vernon?

as far as i can tell, thomas was born to samuel lockley and elizabeth (possibly middleton) they married 1766 in penkridge. samuels actual name was samson and he was born in 1735 in gnosall.

the thomas lockley born 1779 was the 6th of eight baptisms, only the first, john, was baptised with samson as his fathers name

going backwards.... samuel/samsons fathers name was thomas and his father was samuel/samson as well

hi, i hope you recheck this post :) i have traced my family lockleys to francis lockley, son of thomas...(.hopefully brother to samuel in the original post.)
the reason im posting is that my francis lockley bap 1779 married mary lockley 1774 (a cousin?) in penkridge in 1800,
mary lockley can be found in 1841 census widowed, mill street penkridge

please let me know if you have similar information
